A number of hilarious and unfortunate botches were witnessed this year!
WWE is one of the largest professional wrestling promotions, where highly talented professionals perform stunts, maintain their character and give some interesting storylines. Since it is a sports entertainment, the scripts are practiced prior and the execution is done in front of the live crowd.
Although the stars practice their parts before the show, some of the unfortunate botches happen on certain occasions. Here we take a look at the top five botches that happened this year.
5. Carmelo Hayes is confused with names
While LA Knight was demanding a match against Logan Paul for the United States Championship, Carmelo Hayes confronted him backstage. Melo during the promo confused Logan Paul’s name with LA Knight and said, “Why should LA wanna face you when the first-round draft pick is standing right here”.
Knight understood that Melo got confused with the names and sarcastically replied, “If I face myself, I will be looking at the mirror. You are talking about Logan, right? Get your names right.” Knight scored using Melo’s confusion and made it one of the most hilarious botch promos in recent times.
4. Damian Priest missed a count
At the 2024 Money in the Bank PLE, Damian Priest defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins in a singles match. During the match, Rollins performed a Falcon Arrow and went for the fall.
Priest instead of kicking out at 2, missed a count, which the referee noticed and only counted two, although Priest didn’t kick out. This became a big talking point and the fans started booing at the call, making it one of the poorest botches in recent times.
3. Unclean finish for King of the Ring
At King of the Ring 2024, Randy Orton faced Gunther in the King of the Ring tournament finals, where Gunther won the match by pinfall, Orton’s shoulder was not on the mat, making it one of the botched finishes to the match. WWE fans addressed the botch, which Triple H noticed and announced a rematch at Bash in Berlin.
2. Delayed return of Tonga Loa
At Backlash 2024, Solo Sikoa & Tama Tonga faced Randy Orton and Kevin Owens in a tag team street fight. During the final moments of the match, Kevin Owen performed a super-brainbuster from the top rope through the steel chair and tried for a fall. Tonga Loa, who was underneath the ring, should have stopped the referee, but Loa delayed and the referee stopped the count before, making it one of the botched returns in recent times.
1. Tonga Loa’s Low Blow botch
At the 2024 Money in the Bank PLE, Cody Rhodes teamed up with Kevin Owens and Randy Orton and faced Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga of the Bloodline in a six-man tag team match. During the match, Solo Sikoa accidentally knocked the referee out of the ring and Owens tried to powerbomb Tama in the middle of the ring.
Tonga Loa with an eyepatch came to the rescue with a Low Blow, but punched Owens’ butt and punched Tama on the face while trying for the next time. This became a huge troll material and is worth enough to be the botch of the year.
