R-Truth’s departure from the company came as a shock to many
R-Truth was unexpectedly released from the WWE a few days ago. While fans are surprised by the decision, veteran WWE writer Vince Russo breaks it down and explains why the former 24/7 Champion was let go.
On June 1st, R-Truth came to social media to inform the WWE Universe that his contract had not been renewed and that he would be leaving the WWE. The fans and wrestling community were stunned and rallied in favor of the former WWE Superstar.
In this week’s episode of The Coach & Bro Show, the two industry veterans discussed Truth’s departure. Russo broke it down to TKO wanting to save costs.
“We’ve seen TKO, we’ve seen the pattern. And the pattern is we’ve got to make the bottom line beefier. We’ve got to make a profit margin look more attractive. So what they’ve been doing is raising prices and cutting prices.
We’ve seen this NXT system that was made to just churn out wrestlers, not stars, wrestlers. Through the system and now bang, they’re on TV. When this one doesn’t get over, they bring out the next one, and we’ve seen this rotating wheel for years now.
Going back to the three-year contract, Truth has built up his decor in WWE. He is making a ton of money. Truth is also 53 years old, let’s not forget that, so now what TKO is looking at is we’re paying this 53-year-old veteran X amount of dollars, we can probably bring in five people from NXT and not pay them as much as R-Truth.” [10:35 – 11:53]

This week’s broadcast of WWE RAW was the first after R-Truth’s release. The WWE Universe showed the organisation and the former WWE Superstar how much they missed him by shouting his name throughout the show.
The pundits opted to ignore it and made no notice of the chanting. However, CM Punk recognized the chants after the match, questioning the audience how they could shout for someone who was not present.
