Oba Femi won the Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge match
The 2024 WWE NXT Deadline Premium Live Event delivered a shocking surprise as Oba Femi made an unannounced return to the ring.
Stepping in as a last-minute replacement for Eddy Thorpe in the Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge match, Femi not only participated but dominated the competition, securing a monumental victory. His win has now set him up for a high-profile clash with WWE NXT Champion Trick Williams.
Oba Femi’s return marked the end of a 40-day absence from WWE television, leaving fans speculating about the reason for his hiatus. According to reports from Fightful Select, the powerhouse from Nigeria wasn’t sidelined due to injury or creative direction; instead, he was taking time off to visit his homeland.
Prior to his time away, Femi enjoyed a historic 272-day reign as the North American Champion before losing the title to Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc 2024. The six-foot-four-inch star’s comeback has once again placed him in the spotlight, proving his capability to headline major events.
Oba Femi receives high praise from former World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest
Femi’s incredible showing at Deadline has caught the attention of several WWE stars, including former World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest. At a recent Fanatics event, Priest praised the rising star, predicting his inevitable rise to megastardom. “That’s gonna be a megastar,” Priest said. “You can just tell sometimes… he’s gonna be fine. I feel like that’s gonna inevitably happen anyway. I’m not looking forward to that one [he laughed].”
With a match against Trick Williams confirmed, the Nigerian powerhouse is poised for another title run. Fans eagerly await to see if WWE’s creative team continues to propel the 26-year-old phenom toward becoming one of NXT’s top-tier stars.
Whether he can capitalize on this momentum and dethrone Trick Williams remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—Oba Femi is ready to make history once again.
