WWE’s Monday Night RAW featured an intriguing new faction: The Wyatt Sicks. After months of teasers on social media and mysterious QR codes, this powerful gang, which included Uncle Howdy (Bo Dallas), Dexter Lumis, Erick Rowan, Nikki Cross, and Joe Gacy, made their debut.
Their aggressive debut saw them create mayhem backstage and repeatedly target certain acts, including Chad Gable. Despite their intimidating appearance, The Wyatt Sicks are not evil. Instead, they are depicted as babyfaces, battling with the heel Chad Gable and the recently converted Creed Brothers.
In addition, weekly vignettes have presented them sympathetically. Here are three solid reasons why WWE decided to book The Wyatt Sicks as babyfaces.
3. Heels scared works better when it is someone babyface they fear
The Wyatt Sicks’ place as babyfaces is heavily influenced by their gimmick and how other wrestlers deal with them. The group is intended to be reminiscent of movie monsters, and in many horror films, the crowd often cheers for the monsters. From the perspective of WWE, heels being afraid of The Wyatt Sicks makes more narrative sense than babyfaces fearing them. A heroic babyface fleeing from a deadly group risks undermining its reputation.
In contrast, heels such as Chad Gable or The Creed Brothers escaping from The Wyatt Sicks improve the tale. Villains fleeing from heroes is a common cliché in many genres, including wrestling. By portraying The Wyatt Sicks as babyfaces, WWE guarantees that the dread they induce does not harm other characters. It protects the babyface characters while allowing the heels to respond appropriately to the threat posed by The Wyatt Sicks.
2. Teasing mourning signs since their debut
Bray Wyatt’s death was a big loss for many in the wrestling world. Fans who had followed his career since his days as Husky Harris felt a great connection to him. However, the emotional impact on his immediate relatives and friends is far larger.
The Wyatt Sicks include his brother Bo Dallas and one of his closest pals, Erick Rowan. Dallas and Rowan are clearly and properly saddened by Bray’s death. This shared pain appeals to supporters, making them sympathetic characters.
Even the most heartless wrestling fans are unlikely to boo somebody who is grieving the loss of a loved one. WWE fans’ understanding of Dallas and Rowan’s suffering strengthens the faction’s position as babyfaces. Their emotional journey provides dimension to their characters and elicits empathy from the spectator.
1. Keeping Bray Wyatt alive through this
The Wyatt Sicks began with the late Bray Wyatt and his creative vision. Bray Wyatt, a famous WWE character, floated the idea of a “Wyatt6” faction long before his comeback in 2022. Before his tragic death, he and Uncle Howdy were laying the groundwork for this group.
Given fans’ strong feelings for Bray Wyatt, it’s understandable that a faction based on his principles would be hailed as babyfaces. Bray’s charm and originality made an indelible mark on the WWE Universe, and a group carrying on his legacy is sure to be treasured. Turning them into heels would probably not go down well with the public, who like and appreciate Bray Wyatt and his achievements in the world of wrestling.
