Record number of women's matches planned for WrestleMania 42 & details of next WWE Saturday Night's Main Event - Report

The 2026 edition of WrestleMania could feature upto 16 matches.
As WrestleMania 42 draws closer, fans and pundits continue to speculate about the planned match card. WWE has reportedly struggled to establish strong storylines heading into the event and has made several changes to its plans in recent weeks.
Amid this uncertainty, a new report from WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select has provided some insight into the current direction for the card at the “Grandest Stage of Them All.”
WrestleMania 42 might edge its name in the record books
According to the report, WWE’s creative team has internally talked about the idea of including six women’s matches across the two nights of WrestleMania 42.
At least five of those bouts are said to be firmly planned, which would set a new record for the most women’s matches ever held at a WrestleMania event. The existing record currently belongs to the 36th edition of Mania, which featured five women’s matches.
Additionally, BodySlam.net indicates that the overall match lineup for the show could be quite extensive. Sources reportedly expect at least 14 matches across both nights, while another source suggested the total could rise to as many as 16 by the time the card is finalized.
Recently, there has also been a major change regarding the show’s start time. Both nights of WrestleMania 42 are now set to kick off at 6 PM Eastern Time, an hour earlier than the initially announced start time of 7 PM ET.
The 42nd edition of WrestleMania will take place as a two-night event on April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.
The second Saturday Night’s Main Event of 2026 is scheduled for May
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select also provided an update on the second edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event in 2026. The January 24 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event aired live from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Per the outlet, the next installment of Saturday Night’s Main Event is tentatively scheduled to take place on May 23. Although WWE has not officially announced the venue yet, Nashville is reportedly being discussed internally as a potential host city for the event
This means that the second edition will take place just one week before the Clash in Italy PLE, which is scheduled for May 30 in Milan. Similar to the first edition, the special will likely be used to finalize the Clash in Italy card.
