Report: WWE planning Roman Reigns vs Sami Zayn for champion vs champion match at Crown Jewel PLE
Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn could collide in Saudi Arabia
WWE appears to have a major champion vs. champion match in mind for Crown Jewel, with Roman Reigns reportedly set to face Sami Zayn at the November premium live event. The potential matchup would bring together the World Heavyweight Champion and the newly crowned Undisputed WWE Champion.
Roman Reigns captured the World Heavyweight Championship from CM Punk in April and has remained one of Raw’s central figures ever since. Meanwhile, SmackDown’s title picture recently changed dramatically when Zayn defeated Punk to reclaim the Undisputed WWE Championship.
According to PWInsider, the belief within WWE is that the company is looking to book Reigns vs. Zayn for Crown Jewel. The report also suggests that Zayn’s recent title victory could have been made with the larger Crown Jewel plan in mind.
Sami Zayn’s title victory could have bigger implications
Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere
Zayn’s championship victory over Punk came as a major surprise, but the reported Crown Jewel plan could explain why WWE made the decision to change the title. A showdown with Reigns would give Zayn a marquee opponent while allowing WWE to build toward one of the biggest matches of the year.
The proposed bout would also allow WWE to delay a rematch between Reigns and Punk. The two stars previously met in the main event of WrestleMania 42 Night Two, with Reigns now holding the World Heavyweight Championship and Punk no longer carrying the SmackDown title.
That makes Zayn an intriguing choice for Crown Jewel. Rather than immediately returning to Reigns vs. Punk, WWE could use the event to establish a fresh champion vs. champion attraction while keeping the possibility of another Reigns-Punk encounter alive for a later date.
Sami Zayn could receive a longer championship reign
There is another interesting implication if WWE moves ahead with the reported Crown Jewel plans. Zayn previously won the Undisputed WWE Championship by defeating Cody Rhodes at Night of Champions, but his first reign lasted only nine days before Punk captured the title.
His second reign could be considerably different. If Zayn is being positioned for a November showdown with Reigns, WWE would seemingly have reason to keep him champion for a meaningful stretch rather than making another quick title change.
A Zayn-Reigns main event would also give WWE an opportunity to tell a compelling story between two established stars with very different journeys. Reigns has spent years as one of WWE’s defining main-event figures, while Zayn has fought his way into the championship picture after years of fan support.
For now, the match remains a reported plan rather than an officially announced Crown Jewel bout. However, if WWE follows through, the recent title change on SmackDown could prove to be an important piece of a much larger story.
Is Roman Reigns vs Sami Zayn confirmed for Crown Jewel?
No. The matchup has been reported as a potential plan within WWE, but it has not been officially announced.
Why would WWE book Sami Zayn against Roman Reigns?
The reported plan would create a champion vs. champion matchup while allowing WWE to postpone a potential Reigns-CM Punk rematch.
