Dominik Mysterio turned heel in 2022 and started feuding with his father

Dominik made his WWE debut in 2018, and he was involved in storylines alongside his father, Rey Mysterio. They also won the WWE SmackDown Championships at WrestleMania Backlash in 2020, marking the first time in WWE history that a father-son tandem won the tag team belts.

It goes without saying that Rey Mysterio’s son, Dominik Mysterio, lacks his father’s in-ring abilities. Rey Mysterio is aware of the situation. However, placing too many expectations on a young wrestler and expecting him to compete in the same manner as his father is equally unreasonable.

However, Rey Mysterio saw that having his kid under him was putting an unfair strain on Dominik and preventing him from growing. As a result, Dominik’s choice to turn heel and feud with his father in 2022 proved wise. He was pleased because it allowed Dominik to grow and push himself as an independent wrestler in WWE rather than being hampered by his father. Mysterio recently talked about the whole situation.

Rey Mysterio on Dominik Mysterio’s path and journey so far

While appearing on the Jaxxon Podcast, Rey Mysterio stated that while Dominik was working with him, comparisons were made, and he was unable to meet the expectations. But when he parted, he went his own way without Rey at his side, which was the most wonderful thing that happened to him.

Rey said, “The comparisons were, they were made, and of course, he couldn’t live up to ’em. Not until we separated and he continued on his own path without having his dad by his side. And that was the best thing that could have ever happened to him.”

Rey revealed that he has been in the profession for 35 years, beginning at the age of 14 and continuing to hustle at the age of 49. Rey added, “I’ve been grinding for the past 35 years in this business, this profession. For my son to come in out of nowhere and not have my style, have a different build. He’s 6’1. He’s about 190. So it was just, it was very hard for him at the beginning to try to adapt and find his role as a wrestler.”

Rey Mysterio is 49 years old and has spent a major portion of his wrestling career with the WWE. He made his debut in 2002 and since then has won the WWE Championship once, the World Heavyweight Championship twice, and the Intercontinental Championship twice.

Rey is indeed in the final leg of his WWE career, and maybe by next WrestleMania he might call the shots. At present, he is aligned with the RAW brand.
