The tournament features luchadores from WWE and AAA, with the winner earning a title shot against Reigns on the September 14 edition of WWE Raw in Mexico City.
The first-round match of the tournament is underway, and we now have a new update regarding the potential winner of the tournament as well as Roman’s opponent for the upcoming Money in the Bank PLE.
Roman Reigns vs LA Knight is in the works for Money in the Bank
According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, there is a backstage belief that Penta will win the tournament and earn the opportunity to challenge Roman Reigns for the World title.
One WWE source described the tournament as a “unique opportunity” for the company in Mexico and believes Penta is the right choice to capitalize on the situation.
Meanwhile, the outlet also reported that LA Knight is currently being planned as Reigns’ opponent, with a “strong sense” within WWE that the two will face each other at Money in the Bank.
WWE has been teasing a showdown between Reigns and Knight, and the two even engaged in a promo battle on last week’s edition of Raw.
Money in the Bank is scheduled for October 10, 2026, at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. On the other hand, the tournament final is set for the September 14 edition of Raw in Mexico City.
The report also makes it clear that Roman Reigns is going to retain the title in the tournament final, and the match is planned to boost their presence in Mexico while promoting AAA stars on the main roster.
Reigns captured the World title after defeating CM Punk in the main event of WrestleMania Sunday. Since then, he has defended the title three times, and his current reign stands at 117 days.
