Ronda Rousey rules out WWE return following controversial comment about Alexa Bliss

The former UFC & WWE Champion has been away from the spotlight since 2023!
Former UFC and WWE Champion, Ronda Rousey, rose to prominence quickly with her dominant run in UFC’s Bantamweight division that catapulted her to worldwide fame. Rousey tried her hand at pro wrestling after her UFC career and signed with WWE.
Rousey managed to capture the Women’s World title, the WWE Women’s title, as well as the Women’s Tag Team titles. However, despite all the success and fame, it seems like the former Champion just wants to focus on her family instead of stepping back in the squared circle.
In her conversation with Yahoo Sports, Rousey shared that when she left WWE, the company assured her the door would always be open for a comeback. However, even after two years, she no longer sees herself stepping away from her family to return to life on the road.
“I just don’t think I could ever be on the road with the company again. I have two girls now, and hopefully we can have some more soon, I’d love that. And there’s just no room in my life to be able to maintain that lifestyle and a family at the same time.”
Rousey also mentioned that she has no real incentive to return to the promotion, noting that the only thing that might have drawn her back was the chance to do more with the Four Horsewomen of MMA. But with Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke, and Marina Shafir no longer in WWE, she finds it hard to imagine stepping into the squared circle again.
“I feel like I’ve already accomplished everything that I wanted to in WWE and all that’s really left for me is to go there and have fun with my friends, and none of my friends are there anymore.”

Pete Rosenberg blasts Ronda Rousey over controversial comment about Alexa Bliss

Ronda Rousey, in a recent appearance on The Lapsed Fan podcast, stated that it was absurd that WWE had her face Alexa Bliss, just because Bliss was the top merchandise seller at the time.
“The fact that they had me fighting Alexa Bliss at all was f*cking ridiculous, and you wanna know why they had me against Alexa Bliss? Because she had the most merch sales at the time… Like, what the f*ck!? That’s your decision-making process?”
Rousey defeated Bliss at the 2018 edition of SummerSlam, winning the Raw Women’s title (WWE Women’s title). With the win, she also captured her first title in the WWE.
While the comment didn’t sit well with many, radio host and longtime WWE contributor Pete Rosenberg blasted Ronda Rousey for her remarks.
Speaking on his Cheap Heat podcast, Rosenberg criticized Rousey for disrespecting Bliss, urging her to show more class toward fellow wrestlers.
“For her to sort of, not sort of, blatantly criticize the fact that she worked with Alexa Bliss, as if Bliss was somehow beneath her, was yet another example of Ronda Rousey needing to pry her foot out of her mouth. Can you just have a little class and not bury the people who work in the business day in and day out?”
Rosenberg also compared how Randy Orton and Batista would never ‘badmouth’ the business, and also reminded Rousey that she can criticize UFC (MMA) fighters due to her credentials in MMA, but she hasn’t earned the same status in wrestling.
“This is a business that gave you a lot of money, a lot of fame, and you did quite well doing it. And you left when you wanted to. I’m sure it wasn’t all perfect—nobody’s job is. But I just… I don’t know who she thinks she is to act as if—you’re not like Randy Orton or Batista, who, by the way, would never badmouth the business. I don’t get it.
Criticize UFC fighters—no problem. You were an all-time great in MMA. You’re not an all-time great in wrestling. You’re not. So you just don’t have the cache to say things about people like Bliss, who have been around a lot and given their bodies, their time, and their effort, and leave their child every week to be on TV—and go through a lot of different things personally and professionally to be a part of the business.”
Rosenberg concluded, calling Rousey’s comments deeply disrespectful, noting that even if she had been great in WWE, which he argues she wasn’t, it’s still wrong to criticize others in the business.
“It is incredibly disrespectful for you to decide your time was up and now you want to talk trash about the people who did it. I’m sorry—even if you were good enough to do it, you shouldn’t do it. And you weren’t good enough to do it.”
