Some security guards have gone on to become the top stars in WWE!

WWE history is full of stories where unlikely beginnings turned into legendary careers. Some of the company’s biggest champions once played roles few fans remember, security guards tasked with holding back chaos.

These brief cameos might have seemed insignificant at the time, but they became the first stepping stones toward superstardom.

Here’s a closer look at all the WWE names who started as security guards in the promotion before becoming champions.

Trick Williams

Trick Williams has already made his mark in NXT as a champion, but his very first WWE appearance came as security. On June 29, 2021, the same night as Bron Breakker’s cameo, Williams appeared during a chaotic segment on NXT.

Today, he’s considered one of the most promising young talents in the business, having held the NXT title twice, the NXT North American title once and is the current TNA World Champion.

Keith Lee

Keith Lee’s power and charisma made him a fan favorite in both NXT and WWE, but his first appearance was in 2009 as part of a security squad.

On the March 30 episode of Raw, Lee was seen trying to hold back The Legacy during a segment with Triple H, Vince, and Shane McMahon. He went on to capture the NXT Championship and North American Championship in his short but memorable run.

Alberto Del Rio

In 2008, Alberto Del Rio appeared as one of JBL’s personal security guards on Raw. This cameo quickly gave way to a much larger role, as Del Rio debuted soon after with his signature wealthy persona. He would go on to win multiple championships, including the WWE and World Heavyweight Titles.

LA Knight

In 2011, LA Knight was still years away from the massive popularity he enjoys today. On the August 15 episode of Raw, he was cast as a security guard preventing CM Punk from reaching Kevin Nash.

Now a two-time United States Champion and one of the most talked-about superstars in WWE, Knight has proven how far a career can come.

Bron Breakker

Bron Breakker is one of WWE’s brightest young stars, but his debut role was surprisingly low-key. On June 29, 2021, he played security during a brawl between Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly on NXT.

Since then, Breakker has stormed onto the main roster, winning the IC title twice and proving himself as one of the next big names in wrestling. He is currently the member of Seth Rollins’ faction, The Vision.

Johnny Gargano

Before becoming the heart of NXT and the first-ever Triple Crown Champion, Johnny Gargano briefly worked as on-screen security.

On a 2010 episode of NXT, Gargano stood in as Michael Cole’s guard against Daniel Bryan. Fans who saw him then had no idea he would grow into “Johnny Wrestling,” one of the most respected names in modern WWE.

Antonio Cesaro

Long before his uppercuts echoed around arenas, Antonio Cesaro (Claudio Castagnoli) donned a uniform in 2006. On the August 28 episode of Raw, Cesaro played a police officer in a backstage segment with DX and Shane McMahon.

His strength and technique would later make him one of the most respected wrestlers in the world, capturing tag team and singles titles alike.

Damian Priest

Damian Priest is now known for his dominance as a World Heavyweight Champion and his connection to The Judgment Day. But back in July 2014, fans saw him in a very different light.

Priest appeared on Raw as one of Stephanie McMahon’s hired security guards, escorting Brie Bella out of the building. Few would have guessed he’d become a cornerstone of WWE less than a decade later.

Daniel Bryan

Before the “Yes!” Movement swept the WWE Universe; Daniel Bryan was simply a nameless security guard. On February 6, 2003, an episode of SmackDown, Bryan appeared during a segment to restrain Brian Kendrick.

Years later, he would headline WrestleMania, win multiple world championships, and inspire a generation of fans with his underdog story.

Sheamus

Sheamus made his first on-screen WWE appearance as security on the November 13, 2006 episode of Raw. During the segment, he even took a Pedigree from Triple H.

Just a few years later, “The Celtic Warrior” was no longer in the background, he was winning world championships and cementing himself as one of the toughest stars of his era.
