This article contains SPOILERS as the show was pre-recorded on Monday!
The July 4 episode of Friday Night SmackDown will serve as the fallout show from Night of Champions, which culminated in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia last week. The show was pre-taped from the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, after Monday Night Raw this week.
The show has multiple surprises for fans, including the return of two fan favorite stars ahead of the July 12 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event and the all-women’s PLE Evolution.
Tiffany Stratton calls out Trish Stratus
During the pre-taping of the show, WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton was seen in the ring with Jade Cargill, who is next in line for the title at SummerSlam after defeating Asuka in the finals of the Queen of the Ring tournament at the Night of Champions last week.
However, Stratton stated her wish to defend the title before SummerSlam and called out Trish Stratus, who moments later made her return as the crowd erupted. The Hall of Famer accepted the challenge, leading to a heated face-off that set the tone for what’s sure to be a must-see generational clash.
This was Startus’ first appearance since her tag team match against Nia Jax and Candice LeRae alongside Stratton at Elimination Chamber 2025. The surprise segment confirmed a blockbuster match for the all-women’s Premium Live Event in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 13.

Drew McIntyre returns to confront Cody Rhodes & Randy Orton
Another star to make his surprising return was ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ Drew McIntyre, who was absent from WWE programming since the May 24 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event, where he battled Damaian Priest in a steel cage match.
McIntyre interrupted both Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton, who were in the ring, mocking the respect they had for each other, trying to sow the seeds of discord and get them to turn on one another. However, his efforts backfired as he was hit with an RKO from Randy.
Shortly after, a match between McIntyre and Orton was announced for the July 12 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
