Top four stars who could challenge Gunther at WWE Night of Champions 2025

Gunther is now a two-time World Champion

WWE Monday Night Raw last week closed with the crowning of a new champion. Nikki Bella and Bayley made significant returns, while Asuka’s comeback was announced for next week’s event.

In addition, there were other high-profile contests. The King of the Ring Tournament and the Queen of the Ring Tournament kicked off the show, with the World Heavyweight Championship on the line in the main event.

Jey Uso, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion, faced the guy he had defeated for the belt: Gunther. The two men fought for more than 20 minutes before Gunther stunned Jey Uso and reclaimed the World Title.

Now that Gunther has regained the championship, the Austrian will need to defend it shortly, maybe at Night of Champions later this month. This article will look at a few prospective opponents to the newly crowned champion.

The following are four WWE Superstars who will challenge Gunther for the new WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Night of Champions.

4. Jey Uso

Jey Uso has surprised the entire world. After years as one of WWE’s top tag team wrestlers, he has become a solo star. Since then, he has won several solo titles.

Main Event Jey Uso won the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41 after forcing Gunther to tap out. Unfortunately, the popular WWE face lost the championship on RAW tonight.

With that setback, Jey may not be finished with The Ring General just yet. While automatic rematches are no longer guaranteed for previous champions, the majority still obtain another championship shot. Jey might get his at Night of Champions.

3. Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns is one of the most prominent figures in professional wrestling history. He dominated WWE for years as a member of The Bloodline. Roman has already headlined WrestleMania on several occasions and held various world championships.

Paul Heyman surprisingly misled the Tribal Chief at WrestleMania 41. He was then knocked down by Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker on WWE RAW after The Show of Shows. He has not been seen since.

While many expect Roman to come seeking vengeance, he may instead show up and confront Gunther. CM Punk appears to have put his troubles with Rollins on hold to fight with John Cena, allowing Reigns to lay aside his disagreement with the group to pursue his own title chase.

2. Ilja Dragunov

Ilja Dragunov is one of the most fierce and powerful wrestlers in the industry. Despite his lack of bulk, the Russian WWE star makes up for it with his energy and explosiveness. These characteristics have served him well, as he is a former NXT Champion and UK Champion.

The Mad Dragon has been away from WWE for a long time. He was injured at a live event last year while playing a match against Gunther. Unfortunately, the former NXT Champion has been relatively unknown after that.

If he is well and ready to return, he may appear and seek revenge on Gunther. Not only did The Ring General harm Ilja, but the two guys also have a history with NXT and NXT UK. It makes sense for them to fight again.

1. Goldberg

Goldberg was a WCW icon. He debuted and went unbeaten till he won the company’s World Title. Since then, he has had two stints in WWE, both of which included world championships.

Last year, Da Man revealed his intention to depart from WWE. He also stated that he hopes to have the fight in 2025. Not long later, Goldberg came at Bad Blood and confronted Gunther.

If Goldberg decides to retire and face Gunther, it could happen as soon as Night of Champions. If Goldberg is prepared, he may seek to win a World Championship in what may be his final match ever.
