The 17-time World Champion will face Logan Paul at Clash in Paris!

After losing the WWE title at SummerSlam 2025, John Cena kicked off last week’s SmackDown and addressed the crowd. However, he was confronted by Logan Paul, who, along with Drew McIntyre, attacked him. Cena was aided by Cody Rhodes, leading to a tag team match between the four later that night.

Additionally, Logan also challenged Cena for a singles match at the upcoming Clash in Paris, which Cena accepted. The 17-time World Champion is now set to battle Paul at the PLE. The two recently teamed up at Money in the Bank to battle the team of Jey Uso and Cody.

Fans have expressed their disappointment with Paul getting another chance to share the ring with Cena, who has very few appearances left before he hangs up his wrestling boots. The match will only serve to elevate Paul, who is already a major star.

Instead, WWE should have booked Cena against fellow legends, someone with a long history with him, or rising stars with the potential to become future headliners. Let us now take three stars who deserved the chance against Cena instead of Paul.

3. AJ Styles

‘The Phenomenal’ AJ Styles is a fellow legend who fans have long wanted to face Cena during his retirement run. Styles recently battled Dominik Mysterio at SummerSlam for the Intercontinental title in a losing effort.

WWE should have booked Cena with Styles, who has also expressed his desire to retire from in-ring wrestling before turning 50. He is expected to turn 50 on June 2, 2027. The two stars are also tied 2-2 in their four clashes on live television, and a rubber match at the Clash in Paris would have been a perfect opportunity for the rubber match.

2. The Miz

From their singles matches to mixed tag team bouts alongside their partners and even supporting others from ringside, The Miz and John Cena have shared a long, storied history in WWE.

The two stars running it back one last time would be a major dose of nostalgia for fans. It would also give The Miz a much-needed boost and a high-profile match at a premium live event, especially now that he’s nearing a tag team run with Carmelo Hayes.

1. Drew McIntyre

‘The Scottish Psycopath’ Drew McIntyre is currently feuding with WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes, and all signs point to him battling Rhodes at Clash in Paris. However, time is of the essence when it comes to facing the ‘G.O.A.T.’ of pro wrestling, and instead of booking McIntyre’s tag partner from SummerSlam, WWE should have booked him against Cena and booked the clash with Rhodes later.

McIntyre is one of WWE’s top stars and a constant presence in the title picture. A match against John Cena would not only excite fans but also help solidify Drew as a bankable, headline-caliber talent.
