Top five storylines to watch out for on WWE SmackDown (September 27, 2024)

Some key feuds will develop this week on the Blue brand
The September 27th episode of SmackDown will be only the third episode of the new season of SmackDown, which has now officially moved to the USA Network for the next four years. The season premiere episode was a banger and went on to establish a lot of new storylines for the blue brand, while also cashing in on already planted rivalries.
The following episode was also a semi-decent show, featuring a cinematic segment between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, who will be teaming up at Bad Blood to take on the self-proclaimed ‘Tribal Chief’ Solo Sikoa and his enforcer The Werewolf Jacob Fatu. This week’s SmackDown also promises to be a promising show, and here are the top five storylines to look forward to on this week’s SmackDown.
Austin Theory and Grayson Waller
For months now, WWE has been teasing a fallout between Austin Theory and Grayson Waller, but nothing ever ends up happening, and at this point, it seems we were closer to the breakup one month ago than we are right now. However, that is the Triple H way of booking things, and it certainly makes the climax much more memorable when it finally comes.
So, it isn’t likely that we are going to get a breakup between the two in this week’s episode or anytime soon, for that matter, but it will certainly be fun to see what Grayson Waller does this week to piss off Austin Theory and how the two get punished for it. Their segments have always been funny, and their in-ring work is top-notch, so none of us are complaining.
Nia Jax vs Bayley/Naomi
Bayley will be going one-on-one against her good friend Naomi to determine who will be the one to face Nia Jax at Bad Blood. If the championship match had been happening at the SmackDown before the PLE, we would have believed that Naomi is probably going to beat Bayley by a roll-up or something and lose to Nia Jax in the following week’s episode.
But since the WWE Women’s Championship match is happening at Bad Blood, the chances of Bayley taking the win are a lot higher because it is a much more PPV-worthy match. At the same time, Naomi is a committed and loyal worker of the company as well and she deserves a spot in a PLE too, so we can never know for sure. Also, we know Tiffany Stratton will be involved in the matches one way or another, so there are a lot of possibilities, which makes up for a really unpredictable and interesting product.

Andrade vs Carmello Hayes
At this point, it would be safe to say that we all know WWE is doing the Best Of Seven series between Andrade and Carmello Hayes. Every time they faced off in the ring, they made a masterpiece, and we don’t think this week’s SmackDown is going to be any different. Carmello Hayes has a lot of charisma, and he has made this rivalry work with his incredible mic skills, which compensated for the extremely talented in-ring worker Andrade.
We hope WWE will book the final match of the series at Bad Blood because the two have really earned their place in the card with their incredible performances. However, Carmello Hayes is surely taking the win in this week’s episode of SmackDown, unless WWE is planning to extend this rivalry to a Best Of Ten series, which isn’t very likely.
Cody Rhodes vs Kevin Owens
One of the most memorable things from last week’s SmackDown was WWE trying to rekindle the Owens turning on Cody angle, but this time Kevin Owens really has a good reason to turn heel. I am not saying the heel turn is happening in this week’s episode; it’s not happening before Bad Blood, maybe at Bad Blood or after Survivor Series.
If Cody remains involved in the Bloodline business, helping Roman Reigns, who has made Owens’ life a living hell for the last four years, and not just him, but for Randy Orton, Sami Zayn, and so many others who apparently are in some way or form responsible for Cody winning the championship in the first place. And still, he chooses to side with Roman.
This justifies Kevin Owens’ heel turn whenever it’s coming, and there is nothing better in pro wrestling than a heel who has a good reason to turn heel: a bad guy with a good backstory. The promos are going to be legendary, and so will the matches. And just like every other storyline in the Triple H era, WWE is going to build it up slow and steady, subtly planting the seeds, starting from this week’s SmackDown.

Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes vs. The Bloodline
With Bad Blood coming up, this is the main story of the blue brand around which the rest of the show will revolve. It has been made extremely clear through the previous episodes that Roman and Cody aren’t friends; the only reason they will have each other’s back is because they have a common foe which is The New Bloodline. Solo Sikoa is scheduled to be on the show, and so is Cody Rhodes.
We have no news about Roman Reigns as of now, but even if he isn’t appearing this week, he will still be the principal focus of the show. Let’s hope Solo cuts a good promo this time around and doesn’t get completely overshadowed in his own faction by his enforcer Jacob Fatu. The segment promises to be entertaining, but without Roman Reigns, there is also a chance that it can all get a bit repetitive because practically, we have seen this stuff between The Bloodline and Cody Rhodes in the build to SummerSlam as well. Roman Reigns is the only difference-maker in this rivalry.
