This list contains some of the top stars in WWE history
Have you ever thought about what it feels like moving from hitting rivals on the soccer pitch to knocking them out in a WWE ring? For a few NFL prospects, this was their exact transition. These athletes who seem larger than life exchanged their helmets and shoulder pads for leotards and metal chairs because sometimes the road to greatness doesn’t go as planned.
So please join us for an intimate account of five WWE stars’ lives who used to run after touchdowns but ended up falling in love with sports entertainment.
Ron Simmons
Ron Simmons had a successful college football career at Florida State University, where he was a consensus All-American. He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 1981 NFL Draft and played for several teams, including the Tampa Bay Bandits in the USFL, before joining WWE.
Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns, the Tribal Chief just lost his Undisputed title in one of the Greatest WrestleManias ever, but before that, he played college football at Georgia Tech, where he was a standout defensive tackle.
After going undrafted in the NFL, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings and later played for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL and the Edmonton Eskimos in the CFL before pursuing wrestling.
Mojo Rawley
Mojo Rawley, who was a part of WWE is now a full-time commentator on FS1, it is said that he played college football at the University of Maryland, where he was a defensive lineman.
He signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2009 but was released before the regular season. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals before transitioning to wrestling.
Baron Corbin
Baron Corbin had a great tag team run with Bron Breakker but before his debut in pro Wrestling with WWE in particular, he had played college football at Northwest Missouri State University, where he was a three-time All-American offensive guard.
He signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2009 but was released before the regular season. He then pursued a career in wrestling, eventually joining WWE and the rest is history.
Brock Lesnar
The beast incarnate, Brock Lesnar is off TV currently, he is said to be a great wrestler in both UFC as well as his current time in WWE, but before becoming a WWE megastar, Brock Lesnar had a brief stint in the NFL. He played college football at the University of Minnesota and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2004 NFL Draft. However, he was cut during preseason and pursued a career in professional wrestling where he started with both WWE as well as UFC.
From football fields to wrestling rings, these WWE stars traded touchdowns for suplexes. Ron Simmons, Roman Reigns, Mojo Rawley, Baron Corbin, and Brock Lesnar all transitioned from promising NFL prospects to iconic wrestlers, proving that sometimes, the most unexpected paths lead to greatness in sports entertainment. Other wrestlers such as Goldberg was also the one who started their careers in the NFL but now are the most important names in Pro Wrestling.
