Several WWE stars become world champions by Money in the Bank cash-in

The Money in the Bank ladder match is one of the important multi-starred matches in WWE, which changes the career of a WWE Superstar. The match is contested for a championship contract in a ladder match, in which the winner can cash in anytime, anywhere for an impromptu championship match. This bypasses the path to becoming the champion. Here we take a look at the WWE Superstars who cashed in their MITB contract to become the world champions for the first time.

Men’s division

Edge

Edge won the inaugural Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania 21. He held the contract for 280 days and went on to cash in against John Cena at New Year’s Revolution 2006 (after Cena’s successful championship defense in the Elimination Chamber match) to win the WWE Championship for the very first time.

Rob Van Dam

Rob Van Dam won the Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania 22. He carried the briefcase for 70 days and went on to cash in against John Cena at ECW One Night Stand 2006 in an Extreme Rules Match to win the WWE Championship for the very first time.

CM Punk

CM Punk won the Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania 24. He held the contract for 92 days and went on to cash in the contract against Edge (who got assaulted by Batista on the June 30, 2008, episode of SmackDown) to win the World Heavyweight Championship for the very first time.

Jack Swagger

Jack Swagger won the Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania 26. He held the contract for five days and cashed it on the WrestleMania fallout episode of SmackDown against Chris Jericho (who was attacked by Edge) to win the World Heavyweight Championship for the very first time.

The Miz

The Miz won the Money in the Bank contract at the first ever Money in the Bank pay-per-view in 2010. He held the contract for 127 days and went on to cash in against Randy Orton (who got attacked by Wade Barrett after the successful title defense) to win the WWE Championship for the first time.

Alberto Del Rio

Alberto Del Rio won the 2011 Money in the Bank ladder match for the WWE Championship. He held the briefcase for 28 days and went on to cash in at SummerSlam 2011 against CM Punk (who got attacked by Kevin Nash after his title defense against John Cena) to win the WWE Championship for the first time.

Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan won the 2011 Money in the Bank contract for the World Heavyweight Championship. He held the briefcase for 154 days and cashed in at TLC against Big Show (who got attacked by Mark Henry after the title defense) to win the World Heavyweight Championship for the very first time.

Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins won the 2014 Money in the Bank ladder match at the MITB PPV. He held the briefcase for 273 days and went on to cash in at WrestleMania 31, during the Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns’ WWE World Heavyweight Championship match in the main event and won the world title for the first time. He is the only one to cash in at the WrestleMania main event and the first to cash in during the match.

Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose won the 2016 Money in the Bank ladder match at MITB PPV and went on to cash in the same night against Seth Rollins (who just won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Roman Reigns) to become the world champion for the very first time.

Big E

Big E won the 2021 Money in the Bank ladder match at MITB PPV. He held the contract for 57 days and cashed in against Bobby Lashley on the September 13, 2021, episode of Raw to become the WWE Champion for the first time.

Damian Priest

Damian Priest won the Money in the Bank ladder match at the 2023 MITB PLE. Held the contract for 281 days (the longest time with the briefcase in the men’s division) and cashed in at WrestleMania 40 Night 2 against Drew McIntyre (who won the title moments ago and got assaulted by CM Punk) to win the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time.

Women’s Division

Carmella

Carmella won the inaugural Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. She held the briefcase for 287 days (the longest time with the briefcase) and went on to cash in against Charlotte Flair (who got attacked by debuting IIconics) on the April 10, 2028 episode of SmackDown to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship for the first time.

Nikki A.S.H.

Nikki A.S.H. won the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match in 2021. She held the briefcase for one day and cashed it in the fallout episode of Raw against Charlotte Flair (who got attacked by Rhea Ripley) to win the Raw Women’s Championship.

Liv Morgan

Liv Morgan won the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match in 2022 at the MITB PPV and went on to cash in the same night against Ronda Rousey (after Rousey’s title defense against Natalya) to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship for the first time.

Iyo Sky

Iyo Sky won the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match in 2023. She held the briefcase for 35 days and went on to cash in against Bianca Belair at SummerSlam 2023 (after her title win) to become the WWE Women’s Champion for the first time.
