The 01/17 episode of WWE SmackDown features a title clash

Tonight’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown will emanate live from the  Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California. Two matches have been announced for tonight’s show as well as the return of Solo Sikoa following the humiliating loss to Roman Reigns at Raw Netflix debut.

Multiple top stars are slated to appear on the show including Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton, LA Knight, Bianca Belair, and many more.

Ahead of the show, let’s explore five potential surprises that could be in store for fans in San Diego, California.

5. Nick Aldis suspends Cody Rhodes & Kevin Owens

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is embroiled in a gruesome feud with his former friend Kevin Owens. The two rivals are set to collide in a ladder match where the Undisputed title is on the line at Royal Rumble 2025 PLE.

Rhodes and Owens ended last week’s show fighting near the production area, which ended when Rhodes tackled Owens right through the table near the production equipment. General Manager Nick Aldis is already fed up with KO’s antics and the brawl last week will anger him further.

Despite multiple pleas with Cody he too has entertained the brawl and General Manager Nick Aldis will likely punish the champion along with Owens. Aldis will likely ban the two stars until Rumble to avoid any collision between the two.

4. Solo Sikoa refuse to acknowledge Roman

Solo Sikoa is set to return on this week’s episode in San Diego following the brutal loss against Roman Reigns in a tribal combat match at the Raw Netflix debut. The sacred Ula Fala was on the line for the clash, Solo also stated before the clash that if he loses he will relinquish the Ula Fala and acknowledge Reigns as his tribal chief.

Although Sikoa handed the Ula Fala to Paul Heyman before the clash on January 6, he will likely refuse to acknowledge Reigns on tonight’s show. Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga last week showcased that they are not deterred following their leader’s loss, which wreaked havoc on a massive scale.

Sikoa will likely refuse to acknowledge Reigns and will instead continue to cause chaos by attacking members of the roster with his Bloodline. Solo might also target the OG Bloodline members or anyone who dares to support or laud the OG faction.

3. Los Garzas win

Angel and Berto (Los Garzas) are set to clash with the former Tag Team Champion Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin (Motor City Machine Guns) on tonight’s show. The winner will become the No. 1 contender for the tag title which is currently being held by DIY (Tomasso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano).

While MCMG are desperate to restore order and regain the title that they lost unfairly, Los Garzas wants to defeat the former champion and challenge DIY for the tag title. MCMG could suffer the same fate as their title loss against DIY as Los Garzas are not afraid of using dirty tactics to win.

Los Garzas showcased their winning tactics when Santos Escobar interfered causing Angel and Berto to win against Pretty Deadly.

2. LA Knight retaliates

In the last week’s episode, LA Knight took on United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura in a rematch. Knight was looking to reclaim the title he lost at the hands of Nakamura at Survivor Series 2024 PLE.

However, Knight’s hopes were shattered when Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga attacked him during the match causing the disqualification. This attack came after Knight kicked Fatu and Tonga out of the arena and locked the door in their faces.

Fatu and Tonga’s interference which cost Knight the rematch will likely anger Knight who will retaliate tonight leading up to either a brawl or a match between him and Fatu.

1. Roxanne Perez interferes

WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton is set to defend her title for the first time against Bayley on tonight’s episode. Meanwhile, the threat of Nia Jax is imminent for Stratton as the former champion will likely look for retribution.

However, there might be a wild card during the match in former NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez as she was involved in a brawl against Bayley in the recent episode of NXT. Perez also recently posted a cryptic post on social media where she claimed she always wanted to be better than her role models.

The post also featured a photo of the two stars where Perez drew a cross mark on Bayley’s face. Perez will likely interfere in the match costing Bayley the title opportunity and setting up a feud between the two. The segment with Bayley also hints at the promotion plans for Perez on the main roster after losing the NXT title to Giulia at the New Year’s Evil.

How will LA Knight respond to the disqualification caused by the Bloodline in the rematch? Will Tiffany Stratton emerge victorious in her first title defense? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section.
