Balor debuted his Demon persona during his first tenure in NXT in 2014 in a tag team match with Hideo Itami against The Ascension. He remained undefeated as ‘The Demon King’ in NXT until his final match in the brand against Samoa Joe inside a Steel Cage for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: The End.

Interestingly, Balor won his first PLE match under the Demon King gimmick. He defeated Seth Rollins to become the inaugural WWE Universal Champion. Over the next five years, his alter ego was victorious in every match. However, the winning streak came to an end when Demon Balor lost to Roman Reigns at WWE Extreme Rules 2021 and then to Edge at WrestleMania 39.
