WWE personnel were “very surprised” by The Rock’s comments on AEW.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s emotional tribute to the late PAC has generated discussion within WWE after a report revealed that some people in WWE were surprised by the wording of Johnson’s message.
The Rock, who serves on the TKO Board of Directors, publicly praised All Elite Wrestling and referred to AEW president Tony Khan as a friend while paying tribute to PAC.
In his video, The Rock remembered PAC, real name Benjamin Satterley, as an exceptional professional wrestler and expressed condolences to his family, AEW locker room, and his WWE colleagues.
He also described professional wrestling as a close-knit community and acknowledged AEW’s growth as a wrestling promotion.
Meltzer subsequently reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that some WWE personnel were “very surprised” by The Rock’s comments, particularly given his position within TKO.

The Rock posts strong response amid speculation after the report

The Rock was clear with his idea and wasted no time clapping back, sharing another post replying to the report. In his reply to Jonathan Cruz, talking about the report on IG, Rock mentioned how he puts humanity first rather than competition.
“you are right, brother and humanity matters to me. I was born into this business and I have seen it all, but when one of our own passes away, I don’t care nor do I see “our competition.” I care about the wrestlers and how it affects them. I’ve been there. To me, humanity matters most.”
The Rock’s response effectively pushed back against the idea that his comments should be viewed through a corporate lens. His message emphasized that, when a wrestler dies young, personal respect and humanity come before promotional rivalries.
While Rock clarified his intentions for making the video, using those specific words, another WWE Hall of Famer, JBL, also had high praise for Neville and revealed that Vince McMahon had bigger plans for the Wrestler.
Ultimately, the episode highlights how PAC’s passing temporarily brought together wrestlers and promotions that normally compete with each other.
The Rock’s tribute crossed those promotional boundaries, with his comments emphasizing respect for PAC’s career and the wider wrestling community rather than corporate rivalry.
