WWE released WrestleMania XL: Behind the Curtain documentary unveiling BTS secrets.
In the recently released documentary WrestleMania XL: Behind the Curtain, The Rock admitted that unfavorable fan reactions hurt him when he snatched Cody Rhodes’ WrestleMania place. Despite returning as a babyface, he was fiercely jeered in every arena following the news, reminiscent of his Rocky Maivia days.
The Rock vs. Roman Reigns was a box office contest with the potential for extensive mainstream publicity. Despite Cody’s victory at Royal Rumble 2024, The Great One took his place, which made no sense. According to Triple H in the video, Rhodes was left without an opponent for a possible WrestleMania main event.
Fans went ballistics on social media in support of Cody Rhodes
First, wrestling fans expressed their unhappiness on social media, citing The Rock’s unexpected introduction into this narrative. The hashtag ‘We Want Cody’ trended in the United States for 72 hours.
The internet voice became reality as fans began chanting ‘We Want Cody’ at WWE performances. Furthermore, the outraged supporters mocked The Brahma Bull, yelling ‘Rocky Sucks’.
The Rock, who joined the TKO board, listened to the fans’ feedback and pitched an alternative WrestleMania 40 concept to Triple H and the creative staff. WWE finally canceled Roman Reigns vs The Rock fight and instead went with the original Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes rematch.
The Rock then turns into “The Final Boss”
Instead of facing his cousin, the ten-time World Champion turned heel during a news conference and slapped Cody Rhodes. He referred to Cody’s admirers as Cody crybabies, as they had backed him throughout the drama.
WrestleMania 40 featured one of the most heated build-ups to the largest carnival in professional wrestling. Adopting the Final Boss character, The Rock supported his family, Roman Reigns.
The Rock returned to the WWE ring after eight years, competing in a tag team bout. The team of Roman and Rock defeated Cody and Seth. However, the following night, he was unable to prevent the American Nightmare from finishing his story.
