Gunther currently holds the World Heavyweight Championship in his first reign!

Gunther is one of the best-in-class professional wrestlers in the active WWE roster. He has been an impressive wrestler right from the and has been proving his caliber since his NXT.

The Ring General is one of the highly successful stars, who rarely lost his matches. When it comes to holding the title, the Austrian could outperform almost everyone who steps in front of him, as his records say.

He held the NXT UK Championship for 870 days, Intercontinental Championship for 666 days and is currently holding the World Heavyweight Championship.

It is unknown when and who will dethrone the champion, however here we came out with the top three WWE Superstars who should be the World Heavyweight Champion after Gunther.

3. Ilja Dragunov

Ilja Dragunov is one of the most dominant and powerful strikers in the active WWE roster. Dragunov proved his potential as the champion in NXT and made his way to the main roster in 2024. Dragunov within just a few months in the main roster, had developed into one of the undeniable stars.

The Unbesiegbar seems to be a promising future world champion in the company. Dragunov is also the first person to defeat Gunther in WWE. All these makes him the perfectly capable wrestler to become the next world heavyweight champion.

2. CM Punk

CM Punk has made his vision clear that as soon as he ends his rivalry with Drew McIntyre, he will be on the track for the gold. In recent appearances, Punk also sent a message to Gunther and gave him a fair warning. Punk was supposed to be in the championship bout by WrestleMania 40, but the injuries took him out. Since he is back and based on his ongoing angles, it seems like Punk could be the next world heavyweight champion who could dethrone Gunther.

1. John Cena

John Cena is the 16-time world champion, who currently equals the most world title wins with Ric Flair. Cena has already announced his retirement and is set to have a farewell tour, which begins by 2025. Since Cena is just a world title win to become the greatest world champion of all time, there is a huge belief that he might chase the world title upon return.

There is also a big backstage rumor that Gunther could be one of his opponents for Cena as a part of the retirement tour. There is no better way to end the greatest wrestler’s in-ring career with a championship win. All these make Cena one of the top contenders to be the next world heavyweight champion after The Ring General.
