The G.O.A.T. of pro-wrestling captured the historic 17th title at WrestleMania 41!
In his final run with the WWE, John Cena delivered on his promise and defeated Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 41 (Sunday) to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship. With the win, Cena broke the tie with Ric Flair and became the one and only 17-time World Champion.
The win cemented John Cena‘s already undisputed status as the ‘Greatest of all time’. However, as Cena’s date of retirement inches closer, fans are growingly worried that his promise of ruining wrestling and taking the title with all the history with him, while fans have to content with a ‘fake’ title.
While there are many superstars on the WWE roster who can challenge the 17-time World Champion, here we will take a look at three such stars who can dethrone him as the Undisputed Champion.
3. Randy Orton
‘The Viper’ Randy Orton is set to battle Cena for the title at the upcoming Backlash PLE on May 10 in St. Louis, Missouri. The match is the culmination of older fans’ wishes as they finally get to see their childhood heroes battle for one last time.
Cena and Orton had one of the most legendary feuds of the ‘Ruthless Aggression Era’ as well as the later ‘PG Era’. Orton is aware of Cena’s arsenal and has been most effective in shutting it down, he is also highly motivated after Cena’s win as he wants to win his 15th World title, and get closer to the goal of surpassing 17.

2. CM Punk
Since the Elimination Chamber 2025 PLE, ‘The Second City Saint’ CM Punk has been livid with Cena and The Rock. In an infamous promo on Raw after the Chamber PLE, Punk blasted both Cena and The Rock, the Second City Saint has also been vocal about capturing a WWE World title again.
Given their history, a battle between the two stars before Cena’s retirement would be an amazing treat for fans and Punk has higher chance of dehtroing Cena given their past encounters.
1. Cody Rhodes
After finishing the story at WrestleMania 40, ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes went on a journey being a workhorse champion, defending the title successfully eight times before dropping it this Mania against Cena, ending his title reign at 378 days.
However, Rhodes is likely to bounce back, especially since he is the face of the company and the ultimate “good guy.” A title reign for him seems inevitable before Cena hangs up his wrestling boots, and Cody capturing the title from Cena would serve as a symbolic passing of the torch moment.
