The Beast Incarnate left his wrestling boots in the ring at WrestleMania 42.
At Night 2 of WrestleMania, Brock Lesnar battled rising star and former NXT Champion Oba Femi in a singles match. Femi managed to outmuscle Lesnar to pick up the win in his first-ever appearance at the ‘Grandest Stage.’
After the loss, Brock Lesnar, in a rare emotional moment, broke down in tears as he began removing his wrestling boots and gloves. The crowd watched in stunned silence as Lesnar took off his gear, acknowledged the fans while fighting back tears, and flashed the “X” sign toward Paul Heyman.
The longtime allies then shared an embrace before Lesnar exited the ring to loud chants of “Thank you, Brock.”
Earlier reports suggested that multiple people in WWE believe that it is not Lesnar’s “true” retirement. However, no one has confirmed the same. The reports also noted that the backstage belief for Brock is that he will retire at SummerSlam, and it seems like WWE is still hoping that’s the case.
Brock Lesnar is still listed as an active performer

According to a recent report from the folks at PWInsider, although Brock Lesnar seemingly retired at WrestleMania 42 last month, he is still listed internally by WWE as an active performer. This has been taken by many fans as a sign of Lesnar not being truly retired.
The report further notes that Lesnar is currently regarded as a “free agent,” meaning he has not been assigned to any specific brand.
That said, PWInsider did not address Lesnar’s absence from the free agent section of WWE’s roster page on WWE.com. Furthermore, the report is likely going to fuel speculations about his potential return at SummerSlam 2026, especially given the location of the PLE.
SummerSlam 2026 emanates as a two-night spectacle on August 1 and 2 from the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a city where Lesnar is billed from.
