These stars winning the match enraged fans

One of the best ways to get a confirmed title shot and headline WrestleMania is to win the Royal Rumble match. Every year 30 stars try their best to eliminate opponents and win the match which would grant them a title shot at the grandest stage.

The Royal Rumble PLE which started in 1988 initially featured the men’s Rumble match but the promotion in 2018 added the women’s Rumble match. Since, its inception and the later addition of the second match there have been a lot of stars who have claimed victory in the match.

However, there are some Rumble victories that puzzled fans and in retrospect felt like the undeserving star won the match instead of the deserving one. Here we will take a look at four such undeserving stars who won the Rumble match.

4. Alberto Del Rio – 2011

Former WWE World Champion Alberto Del Rio entered the 2011 Rumble match which was the only match in history to feature 40 participants instead of 30. Rio entered the match in 38th position and eliminated Santino Marella to win the match which surprised many Fans.

Del Rio’s subsequent feud with Edge didn’t quite live up to expectations which puzzled fans even more about the promotion’s decision.

3. Roman Reigns – 2015

While it is puzzling for new fans to think that there was a time when WWE fans booed ‘The OTC’ Roman Reigns. The OTC is currently the face of the company and one of their biggest stars was not quite popular during his initial singles run.

Reigns entered the 2015 Rumble match in the 19th position and eliminated Rusev to win the match. However, fans wanted Daniel Bryan to win the match and Reigns was already a popular star at that time which led fans to shower the winner with boos.

2. Shinsuke Nakamura – 2018

The 2018 Rumble PLE was the first PLE to feature two Rumble matches from both divisions. Shinsuke Nakamura took part in the men’s Rumble match as he entered the match at the 14th number.

Nakamura went on to eliminate a total of three opponents, he eliminated Reigns last to win the 2018 Rumble match. However, Nakamura’s win failed to generate hype due to WWE’s bad booking choices. Instead of heading WrestleMania, he clashed with AJ Styles for the WWE Championship just not in the main event.

1. Brock Lesnar – 2022

The final entrant of the 2022 Royal Rumble match was Brock Lesnar, who despite being a surprise entrant went on to win the match by eliminating Drew McIntyre. Lesnar lost the WWE Championship at the hands of Bobby Lashley in the undercard of the same PLE.

Lensar later recaptured the title from Lashley at Elimination Chamber PLE and battled Roman Reigns for the title unification bout. However, the match was a lackluster affair which led many fans to believe that Lesnar was the wrong choice.
