These angles also spark conversations among fans about possible outcomes and interpretations. However, in recent times, the WWE creative team and the overall product have experienced a turbulent period. Such is obvious when we look at the regular programming and the build towards the upcoming WrestleMania 42.
Mystery angles have also taken a hit in recent times, as the promotion has teased multiple storylines but failed to follow through, leaving those mysteries unresolved. It seems like these mysterious angles are being executed only for a viral moment and not for an actual storyline purpose. Who is Randy Orton talking to?
Since his heel turn a few weeks ago, Randy Orton has been seen talking on the phone with someone who has yet to be revealed. The angle was first teased on the March 16 edition of Raw after the turn, when Michael Cole interviewed Orton.
The angle has piqued fans’ interest, and even Orton revealed that he has been listening to the voice of one individual. Even WWE.com published an article speculating on who might be on the other hand. The angle is still ongoing and is likely going to be revealed at or before WrestleMania. But the same cannot be said about the remaining ones in this article.

Who attacked Jey Uso?
Moments before the Elimination Chamber go-home show of SmackDown, it was revealed that Jey Uso was viciously attacked backstage and was subsequently pulled from the men’s Elimination Chamber match. Logan Paul and Jacob Fatu battled on the show for the vacant spot, with Logan emerging victorious.
Now the angle was done to correct the mess after Bronson Reed’s injury and make sure that a Vision member is in the match to set up Seth Rollins’ return. However, the angle has since been dropped, with Jey returning on the fallout show of Raw to set up an angle with Logan and Theory vs the Usos for WrestleMania.
While it has been hinted that the Vision was behind the attack, nothing has been revealed, and the faction has denied having anything to do with the attack.
Who was Adam Pearce taking orders from?
During the January 16, 2026, edition of WWE Raw, Paul Heyman and General Manager Adam Pearce engaged in a segment in the wake of Bron Breakker’s suspension, where Heyman pulled a string, and Pearce got a phone call that made him change his mind and reconsider the suspension.
Since the angle, fans wondered who was on the phone that gave orders to Pearce, was it The Rock, or someone else at the top of the food chain? Whoever it was seems to have forgotten the angle, which has not been mentioned again since.
Who attacked Jacob Fatu?
With reports of his involvement in the men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series 2025, Jacob Fatu was brutally attacked backstage in the October 17, 2025, edition of SmackDown. The angle was done to write Fatu off TV as he was set to undergo dental procedures.
Since then, Fatu has made his return and has accused Drew McIntyre of being behind the attack in multiple promos. On the other hand, McIntyre has denied having anything to do with the attack, and the promotion has not bothered to explain the attack.
On a positive note, the two are currently feuding and are set to battle in an unsanctioned match at WrestleMania, and the promotion can decide to unravel the attack in the coming weeks.
The Rock’s return at Bad Blood & the gesture
During the final moments of Bad Blood 2024, The Rock made a surprising return to stare down Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes. The Final Boss appeared on the entrance ramp after Reigns and Cody‘s tag team match against Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu.
The Rock didn’t utter a word during the appearance but gestured “one”, counted to three, and made a throat-slash gesture. This sparked multiple theories and potential matchups, alliances, and much more.
However, despite the appearances in 2025, playing a major part in John Cena’s heel turn, doing a similar throat-slash gesture, the angle has yet to be revealed, and after such a long period, even the fans have given up hope.

In many cases, mystery angles are designed with long-term storytelling in mind, but changes in creative direction or unforeseen circumstances can alter or delay their payoff.
