Latest update emerges on Bayley's WWE future amid contract uncertainty

Bayley’s WWE contract status remains unresolved.

Bayley’s WWE contract situation remains uncertain, with a new backstage update adding further intrigue to speculation about a potential move to AEW in 2027.

The founding member of the Four Horsewomen of WWE NXT has accomplished virtually everything in WWE. A Grand Slam champion, Royal Rumble winner and Money in the Bank winner, the Role Model has nevertheless felt underutilized at various points in her career.

That has made the possibility of her contract expiring near the end of 2026 particularly significant. With no new deal reportedly signed, questions continue to surround her future with the company. Dave Meltzer provided an update on Tuesday, indicating that there has been no change in Bayley’s situation.

“She has not signed a contract. When she signs a contract I’m sure she’ll be back on TV… But I think the situation with her is if she signs a contract she’ll probably come back and attack Lyra, and that’ll probably be her storyline. If she doesn’t sign, then she doesn’t come back and the Madison Square Garden thing was a write-off.”

Indeed, Bryan Alvarez brings word on Wrestling Observer Live that everyone he has talked to in AEW is ‘baffled’ by the entire situation. What’s more, there is ‘belief her deal is not up for a while, maybe as long as January, and that is if they don’t add any time.’ She won’t be appearing at All In, and, in fact, there may be no resolution to any of this all the way up until 2027.

This makes Bayley’s situation considerably less straightforward than the recent speculation surrounding a potential AEW move. For now, there is no confirmed indication that she is leaving WWE, and the situation could remain unresolved for several more months.

Could Bayley follow a different path from Becky Lynch?

Bayley has been absent from WWE television since being attacked by Lyra Valkyria at July’s Saturday Night’s Main Event in New York. Before the event, there was speculation that the appearance could potentially be her final WWE television outing if the two sides failed to reach an agreement.

There is still a possibility that the Role Model could allow her contract to expire, take time away from wrestling and eventually return to WWE. Becky Lynch followed a similar route in 2024, stepping away before signing a new deal with WWE in January 2025.

However, Bayley’s circumstances are viewed differently. Lynch was established as a highly paid top star and was widely expected to remain with WWE. The Role Model, meanwhile, has a potentially attractive alternative in AEW, where she could immediately become a major figure in the women’s division.

Her long-time friend Mercedes Moné is also part of AEW, adding another possible incentive for the Role Model to explore the promotion.

If Bayley does not sign a new WWE contract and return to television by Survivor Series in November, she could allow her deal to expire before potentially making the jump to AEW in early 2027.
