Jey Uso has qualified for the next round of the tournament
Last week, Bron Breakker announced a tournament to find the next challenger to his WWE Intercontinental Championship.
The competition began on Monday night’s broadcast of “WWE Raw” with two high-stakes triple threat bouts that saw Jey Uso and Pete Dunne progress to the tournament finals, bringing them one step closer to a shot at singles gold.
The opening bout of the competition pitted Jey Uso against Kofi Kingston of The New Day and Karrion Kross of The Final Testament. From the start, Uso and Kingston appeared to forge a temporary alliance to counter the threat posed by Kross, who has recently been stirring up trouble inside The New Day.
As the battle went, Kingston and Kross continued to pursue each other, allowing Uso to capitalize on their simmering hatred.
After Kingston was pushed out of the ring, Uso capitalized on the chance, throwing a vicious spear followed by his iconic Uso Splash to capture the victory. With this win, Jey Uso went one step closer to his first singles title run in WWE.
In the second match, Pete Dunne faced Xavier Woods of The New Day and The Miz, a former Intercontinental Champion looking for a record-tying ninth championship reign, in the night’s second event.
As the bout neared its conclusion, Woods attacked The Miz with a Limit Break Elbow and went for the pin. However, Dunne masterfully lured the referee out of the ring before the three-count, preventing Woods from clinching the victory.
With Woods out of the way, Dunne used his finishing move, the Bitter End, on The Miz to secure his position in the tournament final.
