What happened on WWE RAW this week?
The King and Queen of the Ring competitions continued on Monday night’s episode of Raw. After four matches, half of each tournament’s semifinals are determined.
The finals of both competitions will take place during the May 12 premium live event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The other semifinal matchups will take place on SmackDown on Friday night.
With the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments, WWE programming has prioritized in-ring combat over out-of-ring storytelling. On Monday night, there were four matches in both competitions. On the women’s side, Iyo Sky defeated Shayna Baszler, while Lyra Valkyria overcame Zoey Stark, setting up a battle between the two to progress to the finals next Monday night.
In the men’s bracket, Gunther defeated Kofi Kingston, while Jey Uso held off a hard-charging Ilja Dragunov in the main event. Gunther and Uso will now face off in a high-profile match to determine who will advance to the tournament finals.
In addition, Drew McIntyre opened the show with an in-ring interview. After discussing CM Punk and Jey Uso, McIntyre sought to shift his focus to Damian Priest. This prompted Priest to enter the ring and point out that all of McIntyre’s flaws were his own responsibility. Finally, Priest informed McIntyre that he would give him a crack at the world heavyweight belt once he was medically cleared.
