The former WWE CEO recently settled with the SEC
The former pro wrestling mogul and WWE co-founder Vince McMahon has been surrounded with legal trouble following allegations of sexual misconduct, misconduct in business practices, and misconduct in his dealings within the WWE organization.
McMahon has recently settled with the SEC (Security and Exchanges Commission) and has agreed to pay a sturdy 400,000 USD civil penalty and reimburse WWE 1.3 Million USD.
The settlement came after allegations that he violated securities laws by not disclosing millions of dollars in payments made to silence accusations of sexual misconduct. The SEC noted that McMahon agreed to the settlement without admitting or denying the findings.
Following the news of the settlement, Ann Callis, Janel Grant’s attorney, issued a statement. She mentioned that she and her client are eager to present “new evidence” in the McMahon case. Callis also pointed out that the settlement proves how McMahon repeatedly broke the law.
Vince McMahon’s lawyers have claimed that the former WWE CEO is no longer under criminal investigation
The lawyers representing the former WWE CEO have stated that the criminal investigation into McMahon is over. McMahon’s lead attorney Jessica T. Rosenberg said that the recent federal investigations have resulted in no criminal indictment.
“The recent federal investigation resulted in no criminal indictments from the SDNY, while the SEC settlement relates to minor accounting issues at WWE that have nothing to do with this case. Any claims to the contrary made by Janel Grant’s team are just another desperate PR stunt.” Jessica T. Rosenberg said.
Vince McMahon’s attorney also claimed that any contrary claims made by Janel Grant’s team were ‘just another desperate PR stunt’.
In 2022, federal prosecutors launched a criminal investigation into the former CEO of the Stamford-based promotion which focused on allegations of sexual misconduct and sex trafficking dating back to the 1980s. Additionally, as mentioned above the SEC investigated McMahon and fined him $400,000, while requiring him to reimburse $1.33 million to WWE.
Recently, sources close to McMahon informed Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer that the criminal investigation by the Southern District of New York had concluded, and McMahon was allegedly informed on January 9 that the case was closed. CNBC also reported that the Department of Justice had ended their investigation without filing charges.
However, Janel Grant’s attorney, Ann Callis, claimed on January 10 that the investigation was still ongoing. McMahon, in a statement, maintained that the case was closed. The Southern District of New York has not confirmed the status of the investigation.

However, Vince McMahon remains a defendant in a civil lawsuit filed by Janel Grant in January 2024. The lawsuit accuses McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and emotional and physical abuse.
