The ‘Tribal Chief’ status is the biggest title of the Anoa’i family
The Bloodline is one of the greatest professional wrestling factions, which consist of the members from the Anoa’i family. They represent their family legacy and have been dominating the industry for almost half a decade.
More than the championships, they value their family legacy. One such thing is the Tribal Chief Status, which Roman Reigns has been titled to since 2020, which Solo Sikoa is currently claiming himself as. As Roman Reigns is considered as the first Tribal Chief in WWE, the reports suggest he is not the first. So who is the first Tribal Chief in WWE?
What is Ula Fala?
To know this, we need to first know about ‘Ula Fala’. So what is Ula Fala and who wears it. The Ula Fala is the traditional Samoan necklace, which is made out of the Pandanus tree seeds. The seeds are painted red for the ornamentation and linked with each other to form a necklace.
In the Samoan culture, the High chiefs wear the Ula Fala necklaces with an honor to represent their community. The person who wears the Ula Fala will be treated as the high generals (Chief), who are responsible for the family’s legacy and is considered as the protector of the dynasty.
First Tribal Chief
Umaga is considered to be the first Tribal Chief in WWE, who wore the Ula Fala during his WrestleMania 23 entrance. That was the first time Ula Fala was represented in WWE. This makes Roman Reigns the second Chief in WWE.
How did Roman Reigns become Tribal Chief?
At Hell in a Cell 2020 pay-per-view, the Wild Samoans Afa and Sika blessed Roman and presented him with the ‘Ula Fala’. With Ula Fala in his hands and by the acknowledgment of the ancestors, Roman Reigns became the Tribal Chief of the Anoa’i family. Roman aligned The Usos and formed the Bloodline and led the faction from the front.
In the absence of Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa claimed himself as the Tribal Chief, with the acknowledgment of the new Bloodline members Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa and Jacob Fatu wearing a Ula Fala. Roman Reigns is back claiming himself as the Original Tribal Chief and the battle between them is for the Ula Fala.
