Drew McIntyre is currently on a long hiatus since WWE Bad Blood 2024
Drew McIntyre has been part of an epic feud with CM Punk for the better part of 2024. The rivalry is finally over now, but the former NXT champion has been on a break from WWE programming since the Bad Blood PLE. McIntyre has been a top guy for the company in recent times, and his return feels like a matter of time.
Here, we look at the top five ways Drew McIntyre can make his WWE return after a hiatus.
5. By targeting Gunther at the Crown Jewel PLE
Drew McIntyre’s constant pursuit of winning the elusive world title could lead him to interfere in Gunther’s monumental clash against Cody Rhodes at the upcoming Crown Jewel PLE. This would help WWE kill two birds with one stone as McIntyre would start another feud with The Ring General and two of the company’s biggest stars currently would remain protected.
Although the Scottish Warrior has crossed paths with the Austrian grappler in the past, it’ll be the first time that he challenges his 37-year-old adversary for the world title. McIntyre’s stars have been on the rise partly due to his blockbuster feud with CM Punk, and the Stamford-based promotion would be looking to continue his momentum by booking him against another main eventer in Gunther.
4. Challenging Jey Uso for his IC title
Granted, a world champion caliber performer competing for the mid-card Intercontinental title would seem a bit odd. But there is a ton of history between Drew McIntyre and Jey Uso, owing to the latter’s days in the Bloodline faction, which was a constant thorn in the Scottish wrestler’s path.
Both the grapplers are accomplished in-ring performers and haven’t yet engaged in a direct battle. This gives WWE the perfect opportunity to book these two in a rivalry, to try something new.
3. Entering into a feud with Damian Priest
Drew McIntyre has not forgiven Damian Priest for being ever the opportunist and cashing in his Money in The Bank contract at WrestleMania XL to curtail his world title reign to a paltry five minutes.
Although the two have gone up against each other twice since, once in a singles match and the other time in a Triple Threat match, the outcomes of both encounters were heavily influenced by CM Punk’s interferences.
McIntyre could point to the fact that Priest has never beaten him clean, and it’s common knowledge that both grapplers are prime candidates to challenge for Gunther’s world title. All the more reason for the Scottish Psychopath and the former world champion to lock horns.
Moreover, Priest needs a new adversary as his tussle with Finn Balor seems to have run its course. Keep your eyes out for a blatant interference by McIntyre in the former Judgement Day member’s match to set up this beef.
2. Rekindle his long-drawn rivalry against Sheamus
Ever since Sheamus’ return to the main roster earlier this year, he has been picking up fights with mid-carders like Gunther’s lackey, Ludwig Kaiser and his own former associate, Pete Dunne.
Given the accomplished Irish performer’s propensity to give bangers after bangers each time he enters the squared circle, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is pitted against a main event talent in Drew McIntyre.
Both of these wrestlers belong to the British Isles and have been part of countless battles over the years, both within and outside WWE. It doesn’t hurt to rekindle a long-term rivalry for a few masterclasses in the ring. To be fair, that’s what McIntyre and Sheamus conjure up whenever they go up against each other.
1. Play spoilsport in the Seth Rollins vs ‘Big’ Bronson Reed match
Seth Rollins has had a very unpredictable 2024; his nagging injuries have ensured that the former Shield member remains on and off WWE programming frequently.
Moreover, The Visionary has not been booked in a strong manner, the way his fans would have liked. Currently, Rollins is embroiled in a feud with Big Bronson Reed. Given the Australian’s destruction on RAW in recent weeks, this match promises to be a slobber knocker.
However, Drew McIntyre facing Rollins is a completely different gravy altogether. Granted, the two have faced each other numerous times in the past, but the way in which things ended, first at WrestleMania XL and then in Clash at The Castle, the two seem to have unfinished business that needs addressing.
Look for McIntyre to play a spoilsport in Rollins’ match against Reed and, in turn, start his rivalry against the former world champion.
McIntyre has become an essential cog in WWE’s recent success, and would surely make his comeback on TV very soon. Just how remains to be seen.
