On the August 09, 2024, episode of WWE SmackDown, Cody Rhodes offered Kevin Owens a title shot due to respect and love. Owens rejected the offer saying that he hadn’t earned a title shot. However, called for the match meeting the SmackDown General Manager Adam Pearce backstage.
