AJ Styles’ in-ring career is soon going to be over

AJ Styles’ name is almost synonymous with the sport of pro wrestling. In recent years, since he hasn’t been used more as a talent enhancer, many people forget his stature and the kind of impact he has had on the business for such a long period of time.

He began his career as a pro wrestler back in 1988 as part of the WCW roster before the company shut down. After that, he became a massive star in the indies as part of successful tenures in New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor.

But it was in TNA that he became a massive star. TNA was the only big competition back in the day, and AJ Styles was the face of that brand, performing at what many consider his peak abilities. In many ways, he resembles MJF in AEW today.

Thereafter, he joined the WWE in 2016. He had one of the best rookie years in the WWE, quickly climbing the ranks and becoming WWE Champion and the face of the blue brand in his first year in the company. He has never looked back, winning everything that there is to win in the WWE and carving out a Hall of Fame career for himself in the WWE as well.

AJ Styles is a legend in the WWE, but rumors about his retirement, not a facade but his actual retirement, have taken the internet by storm. Many believe that this is going to be his final run with the WWE, and he might retire by the end of the year itself.

Even AJ Styles has been quoted saying, “I’m getting to that point where I am worried about embarrassing myself. My brain says, ‘We can do this,’ and my body’s like, ‘You’re stupid. We cannot do this. We’re hurting every day when we roll out of bed.’ At some point, this has to come to an end.”

All of that suggests that this indeed might be his last run with the WWE, and he might be leaving professional wrestling for good thereafter. If that is indeed the case, then here are five ways WWE can end AJ Styles’ career:

WWE can continue AJ Styles’ WrestleMania dream match streak against Logan Paul at WrestleMania 41

Styles has had a series of high-profile matches at the Showcase of Immortals, including bouts against The Undertaker, Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Edge. From how and where things stand, this might well and truly be the Phenomenal One’s last run in the WWE. Styles has been written off TV, but he doesn’t seem to have conceded a serious injury against Carmelo Hayes in his most recent match at SmackDown, suggesting he will be available for WrestleMania this year.

Another man who will definitely be part of a marquee match at WrestleMania but has not been part of any rivalries since SummerSlam is Logan Paul. AJ Styles vs. Logan Paul seems like the most likely match that we will get from that standpoint, as it checks all the boxes. Is it a match that people will love to see? Yes. Can these two have a great match together? Most definitely yes.

It’s not the same as the dream matches we got before, but it’s definitely a dream match and a match that will get Styles a lot of casual eyes on him.

WWE can have Styles win the United States Championship in his last run in the company

In the current landscape, it’s unlikely that Styles will get another run as world champion. As for the Intercontinental Championship, it seems like WWE is going to finally hand Bron Breakker a long title reign after hot-potting it to further The Bloodline story.

However, the United States Championship is a title that Styles can realistically win, possibly from the likes of LA Knight or Carmelo Hayes. Styles has had a long title drought, and a short and sweet final title reign would be a fitting way to end his career. Given his contributions to the sport, it’s the least he deserves.

WWE can reignite AJ Styles’ old rivalry with Shinsuke Nakamura

Nakamura is currently out of live TV due to a lack of creative direction, and Styles is also struggling to find his place on the blue brand. However, their past rivalry was one of the most exciting in recent memory, and a rematch could be just what both men need. When WWE tried to recreate their dream match from Wrestle Kingdom 10 at WrestleMania 34, it didn’t quite work out. The rivalry was great, but it was more about low blows and less about wrestling. The two men couldn’t mimic the Wrestle Kingdom 10 masterclass in any of the three series of matches that took place in their rivalry.

However, now could be the perfect time to reignite their rivalry and do it right. Nakamura and Styles both have nothing to do with the blue brand, so why not creatively integrate them into a storyline together, reigniting their old rivalry and shared past, and doing it right this time instead of fumbling it like they did at WrestleMania 34?

WWE can have AJ Styles join The Judgment Day or start a rivalry with Finn Balor

Given their shared history in the Indies and as former members of the Bullet Club, it’s surprising that Styles and Balor haven’t had a program together yet. Styles can still join The Judgment Day now by helping Balor defeat Damian Priest in their future bout, which would also give Balor a much-needed victory and credibility boost.

This could eventually lead to a program between Styles and Balor, giving us a rematch of their TLC 5-star classic from six years ago. This would be a phenomenal way for Styles to retire, if that becomes his last match and last rivalry in the WWE.

It’s almost criminal that AJ Styles had nothing to do in the last year, and we didn’t get Balor recruiting him in The Judgment Day, especially after the group kicked out Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley at SummerSlam. But, as they say, better late than never.

WWE can have AJ Styles face John Cena in his final match in the company

Looking back at Styles’ greatest rivalries in the WWE, John Cena is always at the top. The fact that AJ Styles was able to win Vince McMahon over and become the face that runs the place is mainly because he was so good both on the microphone and in the ring against Cena. His matches against Cena proved that he was made for the big leagues and that he doesn’t succumb to pressure.

Ideally, Cena should be the one to retire Styles, given their history together. John Cena will also have his last run in the company in 2025, and there is a possibility that both men could wrestle each other in their last in-ring match.

However, that might not be the case. Instead, John Cena can be the one that AJ Styles chooses to face in his retirement match, while John Cena eventually gets retired by someone like Bron Breakker or Roman Reigns.
