The Ring General has been absent from WWE programming for two weeks.

‘The Ring General’ Gunther was on a dominant run, despite losing the World Heavyweight title as in a span of less than a year he retired three major names in Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, officially debuting the ‘Carrer Killer’ moniker.

However, all the momentum and hatred from fans have died down simply due to the lack of proper creative direction and sporadic appearances, especially ahead of WrestleMania 42.

After retiring AJ Styles, Gunther was involved in a short feud with Styles’ former tag partner, Dragon Lee. The feud led to a clash between the two on the March 2 episode of Raw, where The Ring General put Lee to sleep, before unmasking him.

Another dominant win further established his dominance, while the unmasking and the disrespect kept the fans’ hatred on cloud nine.

Is Gunther going to miss WrestleMania?

Since the win over Lee, the Ring General has not only been absent from WWE programming. The absence is also concerning due to the lack of proper creative direction for him at the ‘Grandest Stage.’

We’re now less than a month away from the PLE, and the Ring General is not even making appearances on TV, let alone feuding with someone. While there were reports of him battling stars such as Brock Lesnar, Oba Femi, and even Rey Mysterio.

Since Oba Femi accepted Brock Lesnar’s open challenge, that match is out of the equation, and on the other hand, Rey Mysterio is out of action due to an injury.

Mysterio suffered fractures to ribs on both sides during his match against Austin Theory on the January 26, 2026, episode of WWE Raw. It seems unlikely that the WWE Hall of Famer makes a quick recovery in time for Mania.

According to Bodyslam, the feud with Lee was designed to set up an eventual storyline between Gunther and Rey Mysterio. However as noted Mysterio’s injury has complicated things. The outlet adds that Gunther’s WrestleMania appearance remains uncertain, as it depends on whether Mysterio is medically cleared in time for the Showcase of the Immortals.

This leaves Gunther once again without a clear creative direction, as WWE has yet to tease any storylines for him heading into WrestleMania.

While it seems unlikely that the Ring General will be completely absent from the card, his role remains uncertain, especially given WWE’s struggles to sell tickets for the event amid weak story building and low fan excitement.

It remains to be seen what WWE has planned for him, but the promotion needs to step up. Otherwise, the lack of storyline buildup could significantly hurt the match, just as his sporadic appearances have undermined his momentum following three historic victories.

Who is Gunther set to face at WrestleMania 42?

As of now, there are no confirmed plans for him at WrestleMania 42.

When and where will WrestleMania 42 take place?

The 42nd edition of WrestleMania will take place as a two-night event on Saturday, April 18 and 19, at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.
