Danhausen’s curse has made its way to WWE!

WWE has welcomed plenty of unusual personalities over the years, but few arrived with as much chaotic charm as Danhausen. His RAW debut was “very nice, very evil” and apparently very effective.

By the end of the night, a curse had been cast and a championship had changed hands. Danhausen introduced himself backstage to General Manager Adam Pearce with a list of demands that included a blimp, a Hall of Fame induction and a finger-pointing picture with Triple H.

Pearce, eager to avoid the headache, redirected him toward The Judgment Day, a decision that would immediately alter the night’s trajectory.

The Danhausen curse strikes in WWE

Inside The Judgment Day clubhouse, The Judgment Day didn’t roll out the welcome mat. Dominik Mysterio mocked the newcomer, dismissing his presence as little more than comic relief.

Danhausen responded the only way he knows how by pointing intensely and unleashing what he calls a curse. The gesture is simple but theatrical: fingers extended, eyes wide, expression dramatic.

It fits his self-described persona of being “very nice, very evil,” blending absurdity with menace. Dominik Mysterio laughed it off before defending his Intercontinental Championship against Penta later that night. That dismissal proved costly.

Penta delivered a thunderous Mexican Destroyer to secure the pinfall and capture the Intercontinental Title, his first championship in WWE since debuting last January.

After several unsuccessful attempts at gold, Penta finally broke through, aided, at least in storyline by Danhausen’s supernatural intervention. Dirty Dom didn’t take the curse seriously. But the loss immediately reframed the conversation.

What exactly is the Danhausen curse?

In professional wrestling lore, the Danhausen Curse is a signature “supernatural” gesture designed to bring misfortune to enemies. While presented as a hex, it functions as both psychological warfare and comedic distraction.

Danhausen himself has said the curse “gets into their brain,” causing opponents to overthink or unravel at key moments. Historically, its success rate varies.

It has “worked” on names like Adam Cole and Jon Moxley, yet famously failed against HOOK, whom Danhausen claimed was “too powerful” to be cursed. The gimmick even extends into gaming.

In AEW: Fight Forever, players could manually trigger the curse by pressing the L3 button, though it carries a risk of backfiring. That duality defines the act. Danhausen insists his tactics, including placing teeth in opponents’ mouths qualify as “legal cheating.” The goal is simple: accumulate “human monies,” acquire a blimp, and expand his following.

Fallout within The Judgment Day

Before the title match, speculation suggested Dominik Mysterio and Finn Balor were on a collision course for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 42. Now, those plans appear scrambled.

Backstage tension was evident even before the bell rang. Dominik Mysterio sought backup from Finn Balor and JD McDonagh, even requesting the timekeeper’s bell hammer to use against Penta.

Balor refused, insisting Mysterio needed to win on his own. Balor and McDonagh ultimately got laid out by Penta at ringside, and the champion fell moments later. The dynamic has shifted.

It’s likely Dirty Dom will blame Balor for the defeat, forcing factions within The Judgment Day to choose sides on the road to WrestleMania.

Whether both men remain aligned by the time the Showcase of the Immortals arrives remains uncertain. As for Danhausen, he’s presumably backstage, pleased with himself and perhaps still lobbying for that finger-point picture with Triple H.

If the curse continues to “get into their brain,” more gold could change hands before anyone figures out how to stop it.

What is the Danhausen Curse in WWE?

It’s a theatrical pointing gesture used by Danhausen to bring “misfortune” to opponents, framed as supernatural but functioning as psychological distraction.

Did the curse really cause Dominik Mysterio to lose?

In storyline terms, yes. Mysterio dismissed the curse and later lost the Intercontinental Championship to Penta.

Has the curse ever failed?

Yes. While it has “worked” on Adam Cole and Jon Moxley, it was ineffective against HOOK, whom Danhausen described as “too powerful” to curse.
