Hell in a Cell is a WWE stipulation match.

The road to SummerSlam 2026 will see the culmination of the heated feud between Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi. After battling each other and winning one match each, their third and final match will take place inside Hell in a Cell at SummerSlam Night 1 this year.

‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar will walk into the bout with a 2-0 record and homefield advantage, as the event will take place in his hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The rivalry began during the buildup to WrestleMania 42, where Femi answered Lesnar’s challenge for a match at The Show of Shows. The Ruler slayed the Beast in dominant fashion and walked away with the victory. It broke Lesnar to the point that he took off his boots and gloves and left them in the ring, hinting at retirement.

However, Lesnar returned to WWE a month later, and a rematch was set between him and Oba Femi for WWE Clash in Italy PLE. This time, Lesnar came prepared, and it took seven F-5s for him to beat Femi, tying the score at 1-1. With SummerSlam being their possible final encounter inside the demonic structure, here is a look at the Hell in a Cell match.

Hell in a Cell match rules

The Hell in a Cell is a four-sided cuboid made from open-weave steel mesh chain-link fencing that covers the ring and a major part of the ringside area. The match begins between two competitors inside the ring, and the cage door is locked with thick chains and a padlock once the superstars are inside the structure.

Although many stars have been able to get out of the structure and fight outside it on numerous occasions. There are no disqualifications or count-outs in the match. The only way to win is by pinfall or submission. Moreover, the stars often use the mesh structure to inflict damage and also resort to foreign objects inside the ring.

The match was introduced at the 1998 Bad Blood pay-per-view and saw the epic clash between Shawn Michaels. While the majority of the time it is a grey steel structure, WWE has also used red structures in the early 2020s.

When did the last Hell in a Cell match take place in WWE?

The last Hell in a Cell match took place at the 2024 Bad Blood PLE between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre, which Punk won. Interestingly, it was also their third major PLE match in their heated feud, like Brock and Oba. Over the years, there have been 53 Hell in a Cell matches that have taken place in WWE.

Furthermore, as Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi are set to clash in the destructive structure, it will be one of the night’s marquee matches.
