Oba Femi is having a dominant run as a champion

Isaac Odugbesan is a Nigerian pro wrestler and former shot putter. He is now contracted with WWE and works on the NXT brand under the ring name Oba Femi. After winning the NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament in 2023, he challenged Dragon Lee, the former NXT North American Champion. In his first reign, he defeated him and won the NXT North American Champion.

Most recently, Oba Femi retained the WWE NXT North American Championship at WWE NXT Battleground by pinning Joe Coffey, leaving Wes Lee with a chance for a championship opportunity at a later date. It was Femi’s sixth title defense, and “WWE NXT” General Manager Ava decided it would be a three-way after Coffey and Lee defeated Josh Briggs in a contender’s match. Lee had already earned a shot at the North American crown in November of last year, only to be sidelined with an injury until his comeback in May.

Oba Femi has received several medals during his high school years. This earned him a student-athlete scholarship to Middle Tennessee State University, where he won the Conference USA championship. Oba subsequently transferred to the University of Alabama in the summer of 2019, where he won the shot put championship at the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships in 2021 and 2022, as well as the outdoor title the year before graduating.

What is Oba Femi’s nationality?

Oba Femi was born on April 22, 1998, in Lagos, Nigeria. He is currently 26 years old and retains Nigerian nationality. Oba Femi joined WWE’s Next In Line program on December 8, 2021, which aims to prepare college players for wrestling. He made his debut on November 18, 2022, losing to Dante Chen on NXT Level Up.

Let’s look at Oba Femi’s wrestling career

Despite a tough start that included no victories until February, Femi defeated Oro Mensah on April 25, 2023, at Spring Breakin’. Following a sabbatical from television, he competed in the 2023 Men’s NXT Breakout Tournament, defeating Myles Borne and Tavion Heights. Femi defeated Riley Osborne on January 2, 2024, at NXT: New Year’s Evil to win the tournament.

The next week, Femi cashed in his Breakout Tournament contract and defeated Dragon Lee to win the NXT North American Championship, becoming the first Next In Line program graduate to win a WWE title. On Vengeance Day, February 4, he successfully defended his championship against Dragon Lee for the first time. Then, on the February 13 broadcast of NXT, Femi successfully defended his championship against Lexis King and the dominant reign continued as he defended his title now for the sixth time in a dominant fashion.
