The American Nightmare suffered defeat in the main event on April 20!
âThe American Nightmareâ Cody Rhodes walked into WrestleMania 41 PLE as the Undisputed WWE Champion. He battled John Cena in the main event of night two of the show, as he looked to solidify that he is the face of the company, while Cena wanted to break the tie with Ric Flair and capture his 17th World title.
However, Rhodesâ title defense came crashing down as an outside interference from Travis Scott, helping Cena, who capitalized, attacking Cody, landing a low blow, and pinning him to become the 17-time World Champion.
The loss ended Rhodesâ title reign, which began at last yearâs WrestleMania, where he defeated Roman Reigns to capture the title, shattering Reignsâ 1316-day dominant title reign in the process. Rhodes held the title for a total of 378 days.
While Cena made an appearance on the fallout show of Monday Night Raw, Rhodes was nowhere to be seen after the loss, which made fans wonder when the American Nightmare would return.
Rhodesâ next appearance will likely be on the Mania fallout show of Friday Night SmackDown, as he is currently advertised for the show. The April 25 episode of Friday Night SmackDown is set to emanate from the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
The show will feature the aftermath of WrestleMania, where winners will likely celebrate their triumphs. Similar to the fallout show of Monday Night Raw, the Blue brand will also feature the beginning of new storylines and feuds.
John Cena is also advertised for the show in Fort Worth
Alongside Cody Rhodes, the newly crowned Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena is also advertised for the show, following his appearance on Raw after Mania, which emanated from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
During his segment, Cena was ambushed and flatlined as Randy Orton landed the RKO out of nowhere, taking out the Champion as he posed with the title. The segment seemingly confirmed WWEâs plans for Cena and Orton.
The fans were hoping to see the former rivals clash head-on, one more time, before Cena hangs up his wrestling boots, and it seems like the promotion will deliver on fansâ demands.
