WWE has started off the new year on fire
The fifth edition of New Year’s Evil emanated from the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California. on January 7, 2025, and featured stars from the NXT brand of WWE. The Stamford-based promotion is giving fans another chance to relieve the amazing moments from the event.
A special re-run of New Year’s Evil is scheduled for Saturday, January 11, at 8 PM ET on The CW Network. This special re-run has generated a lot of hype among the fandom. However, this re-run will collide with All Elite Wrestling‘s Collision.
The replay of New Year’s Evil will clash with AEW Collision which will broadcast live in the same timeslot on TNT with a simulcast on Max. This head-to-head clash has set the stage for a fierce viewership battle between the two promotions.
Both shows will fight for the attention of pro wrestling fans as they will have to choose between watching the replay of NXT’s event or tuning in for AEW’s live action.
This week’s episode of AEW Collision will air live from the Akins Ford Arena in Athens, Georgia. Two champions are set to perform in non-title matches as AEW Women’s Champion Mariah May will clash with Harley Cameron in a non-title match.
ROH Champion Chris Jericho is set to face Dax Harwood in a non-title showdown, while Cope (aka Adam Copeland) makes his highly anticipated return to the ring after a lengthy injury layoff, battling Big Bill. This marks Cope’s first in-ring appearance since suffering a broken tibia at AEW Double or Nothing 2024.
Two new champions were crowned at NXT New Year’s Evil 2025
A total of five matches were scheduled for the show, including three title clashes, a #1 Contender’s Match for the NXT Women’s North American Championship, and a six-woman tag team match.
Giulia defeated Roxanne Perez in the first match of the evening to win the NXT Women’s Championship. Oba Femi on the other hand defeated Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe in a triple-threat match to win the NXT Championship.
Stephanie Vaquer won the fatal-4-way match to become the #1 Contender’s Match for NXT Women’s North American Championship. The Rock also made an appearance during the final moments of the event where he addressed the crowd and discussed his return, his discussion with General Manager Ava, and lauded the fans for cheering and supporting the rising talents.
