The upcoming PLE will usher in the ESPN era for WWE!

WWE is gearing up to revive the Wrestlepalooza Premium Live Event this month. The event is set for Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana and will usher in the new era of WWE PLEs on ESPN.

The name Wrestlepalooza was originally used for an ECW event series that ran from 1995 to 2000. Its most prominent edition was the 1998 pay-per-view, headlined by Shane Douglas defending the ECW World Heavyweight Championship against Al Snow.

Wrestlepalooza will go head-to-head with AEW All Out

The planned show on September 20 is the exact same day as AEW All Out in Toronto and will mark the first instance of a main roster PLE going head-to-head with AEW. Throughout 2025, WWE has counter-programmed several of AEW’s major pay-per-views with NXT premium live events.

The promotion has announced multiple matches for the PLE. Iyo Sky and Stephanie Vaquer will battle for the vacant Women’s World title, while John Cena will take on Brock Lesnar. This will be Cena’s first and only appearance at the PLE.

Furthermore, The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) will lock horns against Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. A mixed tag team match has also been announced for the show, featuring two real-life couples: AJ Lee and CM Punk vs Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins.

Additionally, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is set to defend the title against Drew McIntyre at the PLE. With WWE pulling out all the stops for the star-studded event to usher in the ESPN era, many fans are now wondering which match will headline the show.

Despite fan speculation that AJ Lee, wrestling her first match in over a decade, or Cody Rhodes, as champion, might headline the event, it has been confirmed that the main event will be the clash between Brock Lesnar and John Cena.

During an appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter, announcer Joe Tessitore announced that the clash between Cena and Lesnar is set to headline the upcoming PLE.

The match will be the first one-on-one match between the two stars since 2014. Furthermore, it will be Lesnar’s first match since SummerSlam 2023, where he suffered defeat at the hands of Cody Rhodes.
