The 2025 edition of SummerSlam will be a two-day affair for the first time!

For the first time ever, SummerSlam will span across two nights, the 2025 edition of SummerSlam is set to make history, featuring a two-night spectacle from the iconic MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on August 2 and 3, a format previously reserved only for WrestleMania.

The build towards the PLE has intensified with multiple matches already announced for the show. However, amid the build, there has been uncertainty over who is going to headline both nights of the show. A recent report from Wrestling Observer Radio has attempted to answer these questions.

World Heavyweight title clash will headline night one

As per Wrestling Observer, the Women’s Intercontinental title clash between Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria is scheduled for the Saturday portion of the event, while the Heavyweight title clash between Gunther and CM Punk will headline the first night of the show.

After winning the gauntlet match, CM Punk has secured his number one contenders spot and is looking to dethrone Gunther to capture the WWE World title after over twelve years.

John Cena & Cody Rhodes’ rematch will headline night two

The Observer also reported that the Undisputed WWE title rematch between John Cena and Cody Rhodes from WrestleMania 41 will headline night two of the show.

Rhodes defeated Randy Orton in the final of the King of the Ring tournament to secure the title rematch. He is looking to recapture the title and exact the humilaiting WrestleMania 41 loss.

The Observer also noted that WWE had originally planned to have Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss wrestle each other in a singles match at the upcoming PLE. However, the plans changed when their tag team started doing well. Flair and Bliss are set to battle Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez for the Women’s Tag titles.

WOR also revealed that a match between Roman Reigns and Jey Uso vs Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed is being planned. Wrestling Observer Radio speculates that the idea behind this setup may be to protect the participants from taking a pinfall loss.

Reigns, in a video posted to his social media handle, proposed a tag team match against Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed with Jey Uso by his side. Jey shortly responded to the proposal, accepting the offer.

They also added that a six-team Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match was planned at one point, but it’s unclear whether that match is still set to happen on the show.

When & Where will WWE SummerSlam 2025 take place?
