Considered WWE’s second biggest event of the year behind WrestleMania, SummerSlam has delivered some of the most iconic matches and moments in promotional history.
‘The Biggest Party of the Summer’ is also considered one of the company’s five biggest events (Big Five) of the year, along with WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, Survivor Series, and Money in the Bank. From the first event in 1988, there have been a total of 37 SummerSlam editions. WWE is currently gearing up for the 38th edition.
While several big names, including Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, Roman Reigns, Shawn Michaels, The Rock, CM Punk, and Triple H, have headlined SummerSlam, there are a few who stand out at the top when it comes to the most main event appearances.
Brock Lesnar has headlined eight WWE SummerSlam shows

‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar holds the record for the most SummerSlam main events in WWE history. Lesnar’s first main event at the biggest party of the summer came against The Rock in 2002.
Lesnar battled The Rock in the main event of the 2002 edition, which emanated from the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. The WWE Undisputed Championship was on the line for the match.
The Beast Incarnate’s last SummerSlam main event came during the 2022 edition, where he battled Roman Reigns in a Last Man Standing match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Additionally, the 2023 edition of the PLE is his last WWE appearance to date.

John Cena is set to tie Brock Lesnar for the most SummerSlam main events

The 17-time WWE World Champion, John Cena, is set to defend the Undisputed title against Cody Rhodes in a street fight at the upcoming 2025 edition. With this appearance, Cena will tie Brock Lesnar for the most main event appearances.
Cena has currently headlined seven SummerSlam shows, namely 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2021. The 2025 edition of the PLE will also be his final SummerSlam appearance as Cena is set to hang up his wrestling boots at the end of 2025.
Who holds the record for most SummerSlam main event appearances?
Brock Lesnar holds the record for most SummerSlam main event appearances at eight. However, with his appearance on the 2025 edition, John Cena is set to tie Lesnar.
When and where will WWE SummerSlam 2025 take place?
The 2025 edition of the show is scheduled to take place as a two-night event on Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3, 2025. The event will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
