Over the years, several Olympians got featured in WWE
WWE is the official destination for the best-in-class professional wrestlers all around the world. The company has witnessed stars from various backgrounds including MMA, Boxing, Olympics, Amateur Wrestling, Powerlifting and other professions step foot into the WWE ring.
One such major thing is the Olympians stepping into the WWE ring and achieving major success. Several Olympians have been featured in the company, however, only two stars held the gold medal in the Olympics.
Gable Steveson
Gable Steveson is one of the greatest Olympians to step foot in the Stamford-based company. Steveson participated in the 2020 Olympics in the Freestyle Wrestling Super Heavyweight division and won the Gold medal. With this, he became the first freestyle wrestler to win a gold medal for America and the youngest to win the gold medal across the world.
Following that at SummerSlam 2021, Steveson made his brief appearance on the show and it was announced that he got signed with the Stamford-based company to prepare for his pro-wrestling career. Gable wrestled a few matches for NXT and in the Live Events before being released by the company. Despite having monumental success in the Olympics, Steveson hasn’t had any major matches or success in pro wrestling.
Kurt Angle
Kurt Angle is one of the top personalities who achieved major success in both the Stamford-based company and the Olympics. In 1995, Angle began his Olympic training after winning the gold medal at FILA Wrestling World Championship. In 1996, he participated in the Olympics trials despite suffering from a severe neck injury and got selected for the Olympics.
At the 1996 Olympics, Kurt Angle won the Gold Medal in the Amateur Wrestling Heavyweight division with a broken neck. He then switched his career from amateur to professional wrestling and made his way into WWE in 1998.
Angle achieved major success in WWE & other pro-wrestling promotions. He is an eight-time champion, fifth Grand Slam Champion and the Hall of Famer of the company. All these make him the greatest Olympian to step foot in WWE.
