Why Gunther vs Logan Paul may not be ideal for WWE WrestleMania 41?
Logan Paul recently joined the Red brand in his return
According to a recent report from PWInsider, the Stamford-based promotion is discussing the idea of booking ‘The Ring General’ Gunther against Logan Paul for WrestleMania 41. As per the reports, a match between the two is being pitched for the grandest stage.
The report further adds that while it is still “very early” in the planning stages for WrestleMania in April, the match has been actively pushed internally within WWE‘s creative circles. However, it is still unclear if Gunther’s World Heavyweight title will be on the line for this matchup or not.
The 41st edition of WrestleMania is scheduled to take place as a two-night event on April 19 and 20, 2025. The massive event will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, USA. This is the second WrestleMania to take place in the Las Vegas area.
Paul has been absent from the WWE ring following his loss against LA Knight at SummerSlam 2024 where he lost the United States title. After announcing his short-live retirement, Paul made an appearance on the Raw Netflix kick-off event and joined the Monday Night Raw roster.
Logan was also present during Monday Night Raw’s Netflix debut show at the Intuit Dome on January 6, but he has yet to make his in-ring return.
Multiple deserving stars would be snubbed of facing Gunther at WrestleMania
The idea of booking a match between the Ring General and the Maverick, especially for the grandest stage is very uncanny. Logan has been absent from the promotion since August and is yet to make his return and booking him in a match against the champion doesn’t make much sense.
The promotion could instead book the Ring General with established stars and former champions who truly deserve a shot. The match would not only add to the spectacle of the grandest stage but would also be an addition to the Ring General’s title legacy.
While there are talks of booking John Cena against Cody Rhodes for Mania, the plan could fall through especially if the Rock decides to come back. The addition of Roman Reigns has also made things more complicated.
If the match between Rhodes and Cena falls through, the promotion should book a clash between Cena and Gunther. This would not only allow Cena to break his tie with Ric Flair and become a 17-time WWE World Champion but also serve as one of the best send-offs in his final WrestleMania match.
John Cena’s father also believes that the Ring General would be the perfect opponent for the 16-time WWE World Champion at WrestleMania 41. Cena’s father believes that the two stars’ style ‘would complement each other.’
‘The Second City Saint’ CM Punk is another candidate who deserves the shot more than Paul as he had made his intentions of facing Gunther for the title and headlining the grandest stage very clear. These two matches would draw more numbers than a clash against Logan.
