John Cena is one of the biggest names in the world of sports and entertainment.

The global juggernaut of WWE underwent a huge change after losing its top stars like The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Brock Lesnar with the onset of the Ruthless Aggression era. At the time, a young man from West New Bury, Masechuttes, walked up to Vince McMahon and asked for an opportunity. Later on, that boy became one of the Greatest of All Time, John Cena.

The Doctor of Thuganomics

The rise of John Cena began with his popular gimmick of the ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’ in the mid-2000s. This persona came after his traditional wrestler presentation almost drove him out of the company, but a chance rap encounter in front of Stephanie McMahon allowed him to portray the gimmick onscreen and instantly became a huge hit among fans.

The Rise of John Cena

John Cena‘s ascend with compelling storylines and title reigns led him to a huge WWE championship match against JBL at WrestleMania 21, where he toppled the Wrestling God and became World Champion for the first time ever. Right after his victory, Cena was moved to the flagship show, Monday Night RAW, in 2005, which was a huge turning point in his career.

The Cenation Leader’s stay on the RAW brand led him to engage in iconic rivalries with top stars, like Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Edge, Batista, CM Punk and Randy Orton. Moreover, Cena produced some of the most stellar in-ring matches that included multiple WrestleMania main events, particularly his generational showdown against The Rock, led the charge in merchandise sales and outside media and brands, carrying his role effectively as the face of the company.

Championship Wins

Among his title collection in WWE, John Cena has been a multi-time United States and Tag Team Champion. But one of his most talked about accolades is being a record-setting 16-time WWE Champion.

Part-time star

Around the year 2016, John Cena began transitioning into a part-time role, while venturing into the world of film and television. But even with his limited appearances, Cena used his veteran status to elevate stars like Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, LA Knight, Solo Sikoa, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and gave some of the most memorable performances including his championship showdown against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam 2021.

With a storied career that spanned over two decades and is set to culminate next year as part of his retirement tour, John Cena, as rightly christened by Michael Cole, is indeed the ‘Greatest of All Time.’
