Why is WWE trying to break The New Day?

The New Day is one of the top tag Team factions of the modern era, featuring Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and Big E. The New Day has been in existence since 2014 and has been one of the most popular and decorated wrestling stables of the company for almost a decade.
The trio achieved great success in WWE, holding a total of 12 tag team championships and becoming the third tag team triple crown champions in the company’s history.
Although they have a decade-long history, things are not going smoothly within The New Day in recent times. Karrion Kross laid the foundation for the split tease saying that Xavier Woods is the only non-world champion in the faction, as his growth has been hindered by fellow New Day members. Although Woods didn’t believe Kross’s words, the recent actions and tease hint at a potential split.
Internal tension within The New Day
A month ago, Kofi brought Odyssey Jones to the Raw brand to help them overcome the rivalry with the Final Testament. Kofi’s plan of bringing Odyssey Jones was never discussed with Xavier Woods and he questioned why he brought him.
Woods was not happy with Jones aligning with them, and at one point raised questions on Kofi asking if he was brought to replace Big E, but Kofi said no. However, Kofi spent most of his time with Jones rather than hanging out with Woods. Woods’ facial reactions and his act teased the split, but Kofi and Woods managed to work together, as Jones was released from WWE.
On the September 16, 2024, episode of Raw, Kofi and Xavier of the New Day challenged Finn Balor and JD McDonagh for the World Tag Team Championship, where the Judgment Day and LWO interfered, causing a distraction and resulted in New Day losing the match. After the match, Woods pushed Kofi and asked why he was not available whenever he needed him and walked backstage alone.
Following the loss, Woods went on to yell at the Latino World Order, claiming that they caused their titles. Kofi who interrupted them said that he was the one who called LWO for help, as he knew that the Judgment Day’s number games would play out. Woods asked him why they needed help all of a sudden, as they never asked for help in the past. Woods also asked why LWO knew the plans for their tag team title match and not him. Woods yelled at Kingston and walked away to tease big internal tensions.
Reason for New Day Split
Analyzing the previous incidents, it is clear that Kofi and Woods have a big gap in communication, as Kofi is not involving Woods in his plans. On the other hand, Woods has been obsessed with Kofi’s recent changes and he is nearing to understand the triggering words of Kross.
The trio haven’t won any title in recent times and the Big E’s hiatus has been spoiling both their singles and tag team run. As per rumors and speculations, the current split WWE is planning with New Day could be to mark Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods’s return as a singles wrestler and could also pull out Big E to WWE TV to address the internal issues.
