WWE is the biggest professional wrestling company in the world, which has been running successful shows for a long time. The company is known for hosting some of the biggest pro-wrestling events in the industry including the three flagship weekly shows and monthly pay-per-views.

WWE hosted some of the biggest events over the years and achieved great success. The shows created a separate legacy for itself and made history in the industry. One such big event is WWE’s SummerSlam pay-per-view. Here we take a look at why WWE calls SummerSlam as ‘the biggest party of the summer’.

SummerSlam- ‘The Biggest Party of the Summer’

SummerSlam is one of the biggest annual professional wrestling events hosted by the world’s biggest professional wrestling promotion, WWE. This is one of the company’s ‘Big Five’ events along with WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, Survivor Series and Money in the Bank. Although being one among the big five, this is the second biggest event of them all after WrestleMania.

WWE has been hosting the pay-per-view since 1988, and with this it becomes the third longest running annual pro-wrestling event after WrestleMania & SummerSlam. In 1992, WWE hosted SummerSlam in Wembley Stadium in London, England, which was the first ever major WWE pay-per-view to be hosted outside North America.

The event reported an attendance record of 80,355, with this it became the seventh largest gateway for the company. This event opened up the door for WWE’s international market and proved that they could generate a lot of revenue and break records outside the United States.

As the show carries great legacy and the event being primarily held in summer the company dubbed the event as ‘the biggest party of the summer’.

Although being the second biggest event of the company, it became the biggest event of the year in 2021, by hosting the first show in the bio secured bubble, when WrestleMania 37 went into pandemic. The company promoted it as the “biggest event of 2021” and it became the highest grossing SummerSlam event of all time.

The growth of this event has come to an extent of becoming a second event to host the two night show in the future in 2026. This year’s SummerSlam marks the 37th anniversary of SummerSlam and will be held on August 03, 2024 from the Cleveland Browns Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, United States.
