Is Dominik Mysterio really injured before his match at WWE Night of Champions 2025?
Heading into WWE Night of Champions 2025, fans were hyped for a stacked card that promised fireworks in Riyadh. With marquee bouts like John Cena vs CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship and Solo Sikoa battling Jacob Fatu for the United States title, the event was shaping up to be a blockbuster.
However, one highly anticipated match won’t be taking place; the Dominik Mysterio vs AJ Styles match for the Intercontinental Championship has officially been cancelled for now.
The cancellation of the match was confirmed on the June 23rd edition of Monday Night RAW, during a backstage segment featuring General Manager Adam Pearce and AJ Styles.
Dominik Mysterio is injured
Pearce broke the unfortunate news that Dominik Mysterio was not medically cleared to compete, forcing the match to be scrapped from the Night of Champions lineup. The announcement was met with disappointment from fans and left Styles without a match just days before the show.
While WWE didn’t go into specifics about Dominik’s injury, it’s notable that this news comes on the heels of another Judgment Day member, Liv Morgan, suffering a shoulder injury just a week prior.
But later on, in the show, Dominik did reveal that “his ribs aren’t 100%” during an interview with Jackie Redmond.
The two are often linked on-screen, and while Liv’s injury status has been confirmed, Dom’s setback is more mysterious. That said, he did appear on RAW in a backstage segment, indicating the injury likely isn’t long-term.
For fans, this cancellation is frustrating on multiple levels. Not only was this a chance to see a true generational clash between AJ Styles and Dominik Mysterio, but the Intercontinental Title deserved to be showcased on a premium international stage.
Dominik, love him or hate him, has built solid momentum as champion. Meanwhile, Styles is a veteran who hasn’t held gold in years. This match could have primed for a show-stealing performance.
Sami Zayn vs Karrion Kross & one more match announced for Night of Champions
WWE quickly pivoted by adding two new matches to the card. Rhea Ripley and Raquel Rodriguez will collide in a Street Fight, and Sami Zayn will face Karrion Kross in a grudge match that’s been simmering for weeks. Still, the absence of the Intercontinental Championship stings.
The hope among fans is that once Dominik is cleared, WWE gives Styles the opportunity he was robbed of. For now, the Phenomenal One must wait and the WWE Universe is left wondering what could have been on one of the year’s biggest nights.
