Why is WWE World Champion Roman Reigns not featured in the 2026 PWI Top 500?

Despite his championship success, Roman Reigns remains absent from the list once again.
Roman Reigns was absent from the 2026 Pro Wrestling Illustrated (PWI) 500, despite spending part of the evaluation period as WWE World Heavyweight Champion. His exclusion was not a reflection of his standing in WWE, but a result of the magazine’s eligibility rules.
MJF claimed the No. 1 spot, followed by Cody Rhodes and CM Punk. PWI released the rankings on September 24, covering performances between August 1, 2025, and July 31, 2026.
MJF climbed from No. 30 in 2025 after capturing the AEW World Championship twice during the evaluation period. Rhodes, who had topped the list for the previous two years, finished second, while Punk placed third.
Mistico, Konosuke Takeshita, “Hangman” Adam Page, Yota Tsuji, Trick Williams, Oba Femi and Gunther completed the top 10.
Roman Reigns did not meet PWI’s requirements

PWI’s rules required wrestlers to compete in at least 10 singles matches during the evaluation period. Alternatively, six singles matches held across six different months also qualified.
Reigns wrestled only five singles matches during that stretch. He faced Bronson Reed twice, CM Punk once, and Jacob Fatu twice, leaving him short of the minimum requirement.
“The OTC” still achieved significant milestones. He defeated “The Second City Saint” at WrestleMania 42 to win the World Heavyweight Championship, then successfully defended the title twice against Fatu.
MJF became the third AEW wrestler to finish No. 1, joining Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega. Rhodes also narrowly missed a historic achievement: another first-place finish would have made him the first wrestler to top the PWI 500 three consecutive years.
Roman Reigns’ recent matches fall outside the cutoff
Reigns has been more active since the evaluation period ended. He returned to WWE television later in the summer and defended the World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam before facing Penta in Mexico City on September 14.
Reigns defeated Penta to retain the championship. His next scheduled defense is against LA Knight at Money in the Bank on October 10, after Knight confronted him and hit him with a BFT.
However, those matches took place after July 31 and cannot count toward the 2026 rankings. Reigns’ increased activity will instead be considered for the next edition.
The 2026 list reflects wrestlers’ records, championships, activity, and other criteria within its designated 12-month window. Reigns’ absence ultimately came down to his limited schedule during that period.
