Many big matches are lined-up for WWE SummerSlam

WWE SummerSlam 2025 is shaping up to be a historic spectacle. For the first time ever, the “Biggest Party of the Summer” will unfold over two nights at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Headlined by marquee clashes like John Cena vs Cody Rhodes and Gunther vs CM Punk, the card is stacked with championship bouts and celebrity appearances.

Roman Reigns will return to in-ring action alongside Jey Uso to battle Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker. Meanwhile, Jade Cargill vs Tiffany Stratton and Naomi vs Rhea Ripley vs IYO SKY promise fireworks in the women’s division.

But with such a loaded lineup, don’t be surprised if WWE has a few curveballs ready. Here are five shocking twists that could electrify SummerSlam 2025.

5. AJ Styles joins The Judgment Day

AJ Styles has been circling Dominik Mysterio and the Intercontinental Championship for months. At SummerSlam, if he finally captures the title, the celebration could take an unexpected turn.

In a potential shocker, Styles may align with The Judgment Day. If Dominik gets ousted from the faction, Styles could slide in as his replacement, giving the group renewed momentum.

AJ Styles has flirted with heel turns throughout 2024, and joining forces with Finn Bálor and Roxanne Perez would mark his full transformation.

4. Randy Orton turns heel on Jelly Roll

Randy Orton and Jelly Roll are an unlikely duo. With Orton’s veteran instincts and Jelly Roll’s celebrity spotlight, their tag match against Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre is intriguing, but also unstable.

Should Orton’s team fall short, The Viper might unleash his trademark rage on his own partner. A post-match attack on Jelly Roll could signal a long-awaited heel turn.

After all, Orton has been a babyface for over a year, and a return to his villainous roots could reinvigorate his character ahead of a major singles push.

3. Seth Rollins returns to sabotage CM Punk

While still recovering from injury, Seth Rollins could make a surprise appearance to cost CM Punk his World Heavyweight Championship match against Gunther. The history between Punk and Rollins is well-documented, on and off-screen.

If Punk looks poised to win, Rollins’ interference would reignite their long-standing rivalry and delay Punk’s world title dreams yet again. It’s a ready-made WrestleMania storyline in the making.

2. The Rock returns and turns on John Cena

The biggest twist of them all? The Rock returning, but not to save John Cena, but to betray him. As Cena’s farewell tour continues, a shocking Rock heel turn could be the moment that defines his exit.

Helping Cody Rhodes dethrone Cena would be a jaw-dropping swerve and could even turn Cody heel in the process. With Cena riding into the sunset, Rock vs Cena II at Survivor Series or WrestleMania suddenly becomes a very real possibility.

1. Jey Uso betrays Roman Reigns again

It’s been nearly two years since Jey Uso last turned on Roman Reigns. This SummerSlam, history could repeat itself. If The Bloodline is set to implode further, Jey could once again superkick Reigns into a downward spiral.

This betrayal would hand Reed and Breakker the win, while setting up a blockbuster Roman vs Jey II down the line. With Roman’s run reportedly winding down, another family feud could be the perfect send-off.

Is Seth Rollins returning at SummerSlam 2025?

While not officially announced, rumors suggest Rollins could make a surprise appearance to interfere in CM Punk’s match.

Could The Rock really betray John Cena?

It is all speculation.

Will Jey Uso and Roman Reigns feud again?

A betrayal at SummerSlam would reignite their storied rivalry, with another high-stakes match on the horizon.
